As a matter of fact, symbols are important to the Venezuelan culture. Venezuela's precious symbol is an image of General Simon Bolivar. He led the military that freed Venezuela's independence and neighboring countries(Everyculture.com). In Venezuela, the citizens have statues of him and named places dedicated to him. Another important symbol is the Caribbean Coast along with the Lake Maracaibo. The lake and and coastline reflect a symbolic relationship of the country with the the Caribbean and South America(Everyculture.com). Not only is Venezuela's flag is symbolic, but it's color too. The color yellow portrays Venezuela's wealth. The color blue represents the citizens courage to obtain their independence from Spain. In addition, the language spoken in Venezuela is Spanish, but there's about forty languages other than Spanish.
Due to Venezuela having a variety of ethnic groups, there are a lot of indigenous languages spoken. The most spoken include Warao, Nhengtu, Panare, Piaroa, Wayuu, Kahlihna, Guahibo, Pemon,Yanomami, and Mendihuaca(Studycountry.com). Similarly, body language like facial expression and gestures are used to express themselves. For example, when greeting a female, one must kiss them on the cheek. This shows how formal and polite you are by greeting like that. Another example is when pointing fingers may be seen as rudeness. The word, “okay”, can be considered an insult instead of an agreement(Everyculture.com). Both language and body language influence the Venezuelan
culture.
Furthermore, Venezuelans values and beliefs are another factor that make up their culture. A belief that Venezuelans have on Christmas is that baby Jesus is the one that brings the presents for the children and not Santa claus. A traditional food that is made in Christmas are Hallacas. This dish is made up of corn batter, variety of meats, veggies, herbs, spices, raisins and are wrapped in banana leafs that are steamed(Morelock). Venezuelans music values consist a mixture of Indigenous, African and European culture. The national dance is a couples dance called Joropo and it's performed to Latin American instruments(Morelock). Venezuelans religion is Catholicism and they belief in hell and the afterlife. In Venezuela there a lot of religions and Venezuelans can practice those religions as well. An interesting religious belief is the veneration for the figure Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez(Everyculture.com). People say that he is a miraculous healer who heals his patients when they sleeps. The values and beliefs that the Venezuelan people practice regularly is what help them improve and stand out of the variety of cultures we have in today’s world due to them embracing their culture and demonstrating it daily basis.
Moreover, Venezuelan society norms influence that way the people act. Women in Venezuela are expected to stay home and take care of the children. The men are suppose to work and provide for their families. The Western has influenced the family gender roles. Women are now able to go to work or obtain a college degree(Morelock). Venezuelan men are are custom to give women compliments to show there admiration to them. As a result, all the five elements of culture have a huge impact on Venezuela. These factors have influence the way the people interact and have behave in society.
