The plot is pretty much straight on. Mitch Albom wrote the story in the third person point of view. The author lets us know how Eddie feels. We learn about the characters through the narrator. The plot takes place in heaven for most of the time but the story shows flashbacks of Eddie’s life on earth. These flashbacks are made up of Eddie’s birthdays, which let us understand Eddie’s life on earth as it relates to the lessons he learns in heaven.

This part of the story occurs near the end when Eddie meets Tala in heaven. The action of the story continues to rise until Tala tells Eddie that he burned her. After that book leads to the outcome of the story. We can guess that in the end we will learn that Eddie did kill Tala in the fire during the war and also that she will teach him the last lesson, which will be the one Eddie has with himself. Eddie realizes that it was not his imagination and he did burn an innocent child in the hut during the war. This moment had haunted Eddie ever since he returned from the war. During the final lesson Tala teaches Eddie that his life did have a purpose. This resolves the major problem eddie had with himself.
Eddie is the main character who the story centers. At the start of the story, he is killed on his 83rd birthday. When he awakes in heaven, he is taken on a journey to meet five people whose lives intertwined with his in many ways which he never expected.
As Eddie meets all five people in heaven, I gained much insight to his life and how it affected others. Eddie was very depressed and full of regret during his life on earth. As a child, Eddie’s ambitions were to attend school and become an engineer; he wanted nothing to do with Ruby Pier or maintenance
