• Root Reflex
This reflex begins when an infant’s cheek is rubbed or the side of the mouth is touched. In response, the baby turns his or her head and open his or her mouth to follow and root in the direction of the stroking. Also, the infant begins to make sucking movements with his or her mouth. Therefore, this reflex plays an important role as it is the most basic of survival instincts that serves as a tool for the baby to find the breast or bottle to begin feeding.
• Sucking Reflex

For instance, if the baby is startled by a loud sound or movement, he or she in response throws back his or her head, extends out the arms and legs, then pulls the arms and legs back in. I have a niece who is two months old and she sometimes gets startled by her own cry and when it happens, her first reaction is to extend her arms and legs. Therefore, when a baby is startled, it triggers moro reflex.
• Grasping Reflex
This reflex occurs when the something touches and infant’s palms. Stroking the palm of a baby’s hand causes the baby to close his or her fingers in a grasp. This is like the way for a baby to holding and trying to get as much skin-to skin contact as he or she can. Also, if a baby’s foot is stroked, in response the baby curls up his or her toes in the same way.
The four reflexes that are lifelong are coughing, sneezing, blinking and shivering.
Coughing: people cough when they are sick or when they feel something bothering them, which is the response that something is not working
