The Four Types Of Human Services
Human services is broadly defined, with the primary objective of meeting human needs through an interdisciplinary knowledge base focusing on prevention and remediation of certain problems, and retaining an obligation to improve the overall quality of life. Professionals within the field of human services are those who empower those in society who may need assistance in meeting their basic human needs emotionally, physically, and/or mentally. With that being said human services professionals work with diverse cultures in various types of settings to deliver not only education but prevention as well as resources for individuals, families, and communities. The sites of this agency is not limited to Atlanta, Georgia (headquarters) but CARE organization can also be found in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. The funding of CARE is supported by grants and donations along with the generous support of CARE's corporate partners whom demonstrate their assurance to finding successes over poverty. Through annual contributions of funds or services, “CARE's corporate partners help bring hope and opportunity to families and communities around the world” (CARE). A few of their partners include but are not limited to H&M, General Mills, Nike Foundation, Proctor & Gamble, Wal-Mart, UPS, Johnson&Johnson, Google, and many more. As far as the educational requirements for the employees at CARE, many non-profit employees the career path can vary wildly, although usually individuals interested in non-profit are business and liberal arts majors. Individuals who have had previous volunteer or internship experience at a non-profit organization or a charity can be beneficial. The responsibilities of working for a non-profit organization such as CARE may include fundraising, organizing volunteers, completing paperwork, and tracking expenses. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia and has been devoted to the Human Service field for 25 years. She serves as a “civic and public service as a social entrepreneur, a nonprofit CEO and a candidate for U.S. Senate. She co-founded the volunteer-mobilization organization Hands on Atlanta, growing its volunteer engagement model from a single entity to a national network of more than 50 affiliates” (CARE). Nunn is a graduate of the University of Virginia; she majored in history and minored in religion. Nunn then continued her education and received her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. The role Nunn plays as an agency director is that she is knowledgeable and a dedicated leader. Along with this role, the agency director provides consultation, supervision and encouragement that identify short and long-term goals.
