The Gainesville Community: A Short Story
Lately my heart has been breaking. I find myself being filled with awesome teachings, learning new things about myself, and digging deeper into the world. The only issue is that i'm filling up but lack places to pour out. Yes, other Center of Global Action participants are a place where I can share what God has been teaching me or encourage and empower them. However, something is missing. I have this deep desire to pour out to those who are in a different path then I am or who don't know the Lord. Something in my spirit is telling me that I NEED to disciple or mentor people.

Let me give you some background of what Adventures in Missions (AIM) does in the Gainesville community. AIM has started the Church of Gainesville as a place where people

I had volunteered myself to be one of the staff available to do one-on-one's with kids who needed more than being in a group. I met Skylar earlier in the morning and I watched as her and her twin sister debated whether or not that they needed to talk to someone. Finally they came up to me, stood before me, and said nothing. I asked "do you guys want to go chat about something." They nodded and said …show more content…
Kids are my passion, but I wasn't sure if I was going to say the right things. Skylar and Ali wanted intercession for their 2 friends. One who had cyst on the bottom of his foot and was having surgery the next week, and the other was their non-christian friend who was self-mutilating her body by cutting herself. They we were taking her to church with them on Wednesday nights and Sundays. Constantly spending time pouring into her and praying for her.

I laughed on the inside. These kids didn't "need" anything from me, I needed what they had to share. Skylar and Ali are 11 years old and they are going out into the world to make disciples. "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.... teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."
- Matthew 28:19-20

These two young ladies encouraged me to go out and make disciples. There are people who need to hear the gospel. So if you are a Believer I challenge you to go out and make disciples. Ask the Lord to use you wherever you go. The grocery story, your favorite restaurant, the gas station, or while your on a run. You never know who is waiting to hear from you or spend time sharing with

When one views the life of the Apostle Paul in the New Testament it is evident that he had a heart to disciple others. The evidence at hand identified Paul as more than an individual who had doctrinal knowledge, for he was the quintessential model for living out the standards of Christian behavior. In his letter to the Church of Philippi Paul encourage them to “Whatever…

Spiritually dead is the first of the five stages. This stage is basically a sinner who has not accepted Christ as their personal Savior and Lord. This person is still living a life of sin, and does not want to give up this life. Spiritually dead individuals do not have the love and forgiveness of Christ living within them.…

This mission reminds us that for the Kingdom of God to continue to break in, individual lives need to be changed, while being motivated and equipped for transformation. Our Book of Discipline offers this cue: “God has used our church to save persons, heal relationships, transform social structures, and spread scriptural holiness, thereby changing the world.” When we change lives and introduce people to the all-loving nature of God, we indeed transform the world. When making disciples, the Church welcomes people into community, educates them on God’s call for Christians, and equips them toward using their spiritual gifts to serve as change agents playing a role in bringing about the Kingdom of…

To Kellen Sapp for showing me that I have an impact on others. When I was in middle school and junior high, I frequently helped with the children's ministry at my church. I was the designated choreographer for three children's musicals, so I got to spend a great deal of time with the children. There was one child in particular that I grew especially fond of. He reminded me a lot of myself. At the early musical recitals, I would often see him sitting quietly alone in the back of the room. I remembered being that child myself many year prior, so I made a point to sit beside him and talk to him. Once I had reached out to him, he would transform into a different individual and start participating and playing with all the other children.…

I have come to understand that I have an innate urge to help those more disadvantaged than I. I believe that God has placed this urge in my so that I can be an instrument of his will. We all have the potential and are called to me such an instrument and that calling comes in different avenues for each person. I believe that I have found one such avenue. I learned God understands and know the potential in each person and will task him or her with only the things they have the power to handle. I pray that as the years go forth and I enter into my professional career this experience and other experience will grant me the knowledge on how to create a nonprofit organization that will help the children of Haiti gain a proper education. I this yearning to construct something of that nature could only be placed in me from God and that’s how I know that I will be able to bring it into…
