"The Gap between Knowledge and Action"
Have you ever wondered why, a lot of times, you just can’t seem to make progress in life despite the fact that you know so much about what it takes to succeed? There just seems to be a gap between what you know and what you actually do. I call this The Gap Between Knowledge and Action. That is the title of this message: The Gap Between Knowledge and Action.
Over the years, I have gotten many enquiries through my website called Motivation for Dreamers from people who feel frustrated and unable to progress in life. Quite a few indicated that they have read a lot of different personal development and motivational materials over the years and acquired a wealth of knowledge in this way. But, for some reason, they just couldn’t get past reading or listening to such materials to actually living the life they desired.
Often this was accompanied by a sense of frustration and the feeling that perhaps such things just don’t work, or at least not for them. That is usually how we get to feel when there is a gap between our knowledge and our actions. It’s when you know what to do and how to do it, but you just can’t get to actually doing it.
I have attended or listened to many seminars myself over the years. In many cases they were great seminars, giving really useful information. But I noticed that in all likelihood, most people attending the seminar would put the seminar materials on their shelves afterwards and pretty much not act on the information, even though at the time they received it they were very enthusiastic and excited about it. But somehow, as the days go by the routines of daily life get in the way and the initial zeal just dies out.
It was a coaching session that I came to realize what exactly that gap was. I found out that the missing ingredient is usually:
Clarity
Or rather I should say, it is a lack of clarity that keeps us stuck in a certain pattern. By lack of clarity I mean three basic

I completely agree with you and I see where you coming from for me the decision to increase your motivation is the key to the bringing a greater sense of it for yourself. Putting greater focus on the things that you want to achieve until you actually accomplish them can do this. The stronger your focus is on the goal, the greater the motivation will be. The truth of the matter is if you are unable to keep track of your goals, it can be generalized that you do not really desire to achieve it. Motivation can come naturally, and no amount of inspirational talk will set you to action if you really are not into taking the goal seriously.…

There is a certain positive position taken when the words knowledge and individual power are placed together. As my mind flooded with emerging ideas to define my feelings and thoughts on these words I kept coming back to independence, healthy self esteem and accepting. Reading through the assigned stories and poems and there analysis by others, I found that they too concluded a certain theme of accepting others once they were more informed. My view and the excerpts from Lauren Axelrod well written analysis below seem to be the same. Knowledge gives self empowerment.…

If we want to reach our dreams, we have to remember to be realistic. One thing the majority of people do in order to visualize the path to their dreams is they set goals for themselves whether it’s a career goal or some other lifetime goal. Setting goals has proven to be very effective but we also have to realize that our dreams won’t be achieved easily. We have to remember that just because we want something bad enough doesn’t mean we’ve made it happen yet. It’s just a goal until we finally bring those ideas and goals to full fruition. In the essay titled “Turn a Wish Into a Triumph”, Joel Wade discusses how when we picture ourselves with our goals achieved, we begin to falsely believe that we have actually achieved them. Then we begin to lose our drive.…

The knowing-doing gap occurs when knowledge is acquired but is not put into action. There are three steps that can be taken to fix the knowing-doing gap. First, the organization must determine the size of their knowing-doing gap by finding out which barriers exist. Pfeffer & Sutton have come up with solutions to overcome these barriers to action. Next, the knowledge bridge should be created and implemented. Thirdly, the action learning process needs to be applied.…
