The Garden Umbrella Medium By Frederick Carl Frieseke
Description
The Garden Umbrella Medium is an oil on canvas painting by Frederick Carl Frieseke. It measures 32 5/16 x 32 5/16 inches and is displayed in the Telfair Academy in Savannah, GA. The Garden Umbrella was painted in 1910. The painting is an example of American Impressionism comprised of many shades of green and blue with brighter yellows and oranges dispersed throughout. In the distance there are large trees or shrubs depicted with dark greens. The dark green trees give way on the top right corner to a blue sky filled with white airy clouds above the hills in the distance. Roughly one quarter of the way down the garden begins with a border of light blue and red flowers so close together it almost appears purple. The garden itself is filled with a few small trees bordering a walkway through the center of the garden and

Many small flowers form an arch shape in the garden’s distant edges. At the center of this piece two women sit comfortably in an open, grassy area of the garden as the sun shines through. The flowers encircle the two women but are painted in a manner that does not draw attention to them. The women sit, one in a chair, the other on the ground of a circular portion of a path through the garden. They sit closely together both wearing white dresses underneath a colorful umbrella. The umbrella itself is leaning at an angle to expose the underneath mixture of bright yellow, orange, red and blue in no distinct pattern. It is the brightest object on the canvas and continuously pulls the eye toward the center of the painting. Overall, the paining is of a nice summer day where the sun is out casting nice shady areas to the right side of the garden view. The two women appear relaxed and enjoying their surroundings with possibly a meal or tea arranged on a small white table

The theme of Marigolds by Eugenia W. Collier is that beauty is really how you see it since everything is beautiful in its own way. She finally understands Miss.Lottie view of the marigolds and how they represented a little bit of happiness…

In the bottom left area of the painting you see a group of trees that are light green on its top leaves but a darker green for the leaves not seen. There is one subjected tree with a form behind that looks like it is a rose bush with its brightly red flowers. Past that rose bush like figure the trees go beyond it blurring out. Now you are focusing on the bottom middle. There is a small splotch of dark brown that looks as though it is a bare area in the greeny field.…

My eyes first look at the mariners because of the lighter color tones their clothes have. Next, the arcs above the water, they always seem to catch my attention too. It also seems like they make a divider between both sides of the river. The sky uses lighter colors like, the whites and grays in the clouds mixed in with light blue to represent the sky peeping between the clouds. On other images of this painting the windows or balconies, look to be filled with people watching the jousting match.…

The land around me was rather flat, orange shrubbery dotted it, with certain structures on the plant that glowed blue, most no higher than my shin, trees were scarce, with strangely ordered branches twisting around a main trunk along with that same blue structure. As iconic as Bob Marley’s music remains, his legend is more than just good sound. Marley’s songs are rooted to the idea that music is symbolic enough to spark a change within others. Marley’s significance transcends from protesting against the system by fighting and writing about it all while inspiring generations of youth to do the same. Ainouche said that "Perhaps roots reggae is currently less palpable, but it remains a potent form of dialogue that challenges the hegemony of supremacy and racism" (par 23). This statement confirms that original meaning of reggae has disappeared as time went on. Instead, the genres that bred from reggae carry on the symbolic meaning that reggae remains a voice of protest and rebellion.…
