The Garden Umbrella Medium is an oil on canvas painting by Frederick Carl Frieseke. It measures 32 5/16 x 32 5/16 inches and is displayed in the Telfair Academy in Savannah, GA. Many small flowers form an arch shape in the garden’s distant edges. At the center of this piece two women sit comfortably in an open, grassy area of the garden as the sun shines through. The flowers encircle the two women but are painted in a manner that does not draw attention to them. The women sit, one in a chair, the other on the ground of a circular portion of a path through the garden. They sit closely together both wearing white dresses underneath a colorful umbrella. The umbrella itself is leaning at an angle to expose the underneath mixture of bright yellow, orange, red and blue in no distinct pattern. It is the brightest object on the canvas and continuously pulls the eye toward the center of the painting. Overall, the paining is of a nice summer day where the sun is out casting nice shady areas to the right side of the garden view. The two women appear relaxed and enjoying their surroundings with possibly a meal or tea arranged on a small white table
