The Giver, a science fiction novel by Lois Lowry is about about a boy named Jonas who lives in a different type of community. Jonas has a family unit a father a mother and his little sister Lily. In this community ,every December, there is a ceremony a where they get there jobs or they move up a year. At Twelve, children are assigned a job by the Elders who have been observing them for the past few years to see their interests and skills to determine the appropriate. Jonas, however, is selected to be the Receiver of Memory; his job will be to hold on to the memories of the past. When Jonas gets this memory, he wakes up in white cold place with the same white stuff falling from the sky. Jonas perceives the word snow and hill he sees something on the edge of the hill. He walks to the thing he sits on it holds the rains and goes down the hill; when Jonas goes down the hill, he feels the wind whipping around him the cold stinging his face and most important of all a feeling of fun.
