The Giver, a book written by the New York Times best seller Louis Lowry revolves around a community that encompasses one major trait, order. This community has many rules and a structure to everything that happens in the society from putting everyone in a job they believe is best for them, having precision on language to fully understand what each person is trying to say, and releasing The Old once their life is fulfilled and newborn babies who don't meet the health code of the community. There is a thirteen year old boy named Jonas who is in the age group 13 this year. At the yearly ceremony since Jonas is a 13 will receive his job to serve the community. Jonas will receive the memories of before his time, his parents time, and back and back and back. After the ceremony Jonas begins his training to become the receiver of Memory. Jonas' life changes drastically and starts to notice new things inside the community. The Giver transmits memory of colour to Jonas and Jonas begins to see colour. Wonderful colour that he had never seen. The memories atonal gets a wonderful and Jonas begins to wonder why they would ever get rid of these beautiful things. Until, the memories begin to be dark. Horrible memories that leave Jonas in anguish. Memories of death and sorrow begin to torment Jonas' mind. One day Jonas wonders what happens to babies when they are released from the community into Elsewhere (that's what they like to call it). The Giver shows him the tape of a releasing and Jonas becomes heartbroken. The babies face once injected with serum resembles the face of a young boy dying on the battlefield in one of his memories.
