The Giver Chapter 1 Summary
Jonas and Gabriel are on a journey to elsewhere.Jonas feels what homeless people nowadays feel. He has no warmth, shelter, food, or any water, He struggles to keep Gabriel alive. He struggles to find elsewhere before his buddy can no longer see, feel, or breath anymore. Although at first he struggled to find enough food to keep him and Jonas alive he no longer has to worry about finding enough food for two people. He lost most of his warmth memories and struggles a bunch to keep warm.
Jonas and Gabriel left the community about two weeks ago. Jonas is struggling to keep Gabriel alive. He barely has any warming memories left. He does not have any food or water, a horrible shelter, it is so hard for him to concentrate on finding elsewhere.

He looked down at his hands and he just seen Gabriel not breathing, he thought Gabriel might have been cold and so Jonas tried giving him a warming memory but he notice that Gabriel had not been breathing. He started to cry and he questioned himself, “How could I let this happen to little Gabe ? “ he said to himself. He finally got enough courage to knock on the door.He knocked on the door and someone said “ Who’s there ? “. Jonas said his name and the little girl opened the door and said “Hi, My name is Rosemary. “ Jonas looked at her with a surprised face and asked her “ Are you The Givers, I mean Receivers daughter? “ Rosemary replied “ Yes Jonas I am “ Jonas explained to her that he became the new receiver and that her father had became the giver. She asked “Jonas why did you knock on my door crying ? “ Jonas answered her question, “ My family had been watching this little boy named Gabriel and my father decided that it might have been time to “release” him. I took him in the middle of the night and we began our journey here and right before I knocked I looked down and he had took his last breath between the sled ride and me knocking. “ Rosemary teared up. “I am so sorry Jonas” She hugged him .
Jonas was talking to Rosemary. They wanted to go back to the community, so that they knew that they would be taken care of. They decided they were going to go back but not
