One example of a similarity between the two societies is, they are both ruled by a government of some sort. In The Giver, by Lois Lowry, the community is ruled by a group of people called Elders, they are in charge of making every decision in the society. Though the process is very,very different, the children still go through the process of being newborns and growing up. In our society, people have babies everyday. In their society, the process is pretty much the same. There are people designated to having babies for the society. Yes, people are assigned to give birth to children in their society, in ours they are not. BUT, like stated before, each have their own versions of children or newborns growing up, and people taking the responsibility to be a mother and raise their own children.
One of the most important differences is the fact that in their society, they do not have the ability to see color. In our society, we see many colors, red, orange,yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, etc. However, in the society of the book, The Giver, they are not able to see color. Jonas, had to learn to see color and he did. By the end of the story, Jonas had the ability to see all of the colors. If you look around the room, don't you see many different colors? Well, in the society from The Giver, it's not quite that
