thought Odysseus died, and they wanted a new king of Ithaca. Penelope had hope of her husband's return and wanted to remain faithful. Telemachus also wanted the suitors to leave his mother alone, but he was too young and powerless to get rid of them.
Book two: Odysseus son Telemachus speaks to the suitors about leaving his house. They get angry with Penelope for not choosing a new husband. Telemachus tells them that he is planning on search for information about his father. His journey will take no more than a year. He tells the suitors that if he finds out that his father died, he will return home, hold a funeral, and his mother will choose a new husband. Athena encourages Telemachus to go on this journey, and he asks her to watch over him as he does.
Book three: Telemachus arrives at a place called Pylos where he meets King Nestor. Telemachus explains that he has come from Ithaca looking for some information about his father Odysseus. Nestor tells him the little information that he heard about the war and how Odysseus and his men started a journey back home. Telemachus tells him about the suitors. Nestor tells him not to lose hope because he knows Athena is on Odysseus's side, and he thinks he will make it home. Nestor tells Telemachus to visit Menelaus for more information.
