Theoretical Relevance
Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando):
According to Ohio State Studies, Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) portrays the “Initiating Structure” theory. As we come to learn that he has very strong principles about his business and the family. Don Corleone, as the movie progresses, is seen to make difficult decisions and doesn’t care or think about what others or the subordinates (capo-regimes) think about the decision. But sometimes considers the views of his consigliore. Also If I had to choose from the University of Michigan Studies, I would say Don Corleone was a “Production Oriented Leader” as he always made decisions for the greater good towards the company’s (Family’s) goal. According to Path-Goal Theory Don Corleone was a “Participative Leader” as he always listened to what everyone has to say then make the decision which may be against the norm. Don Corleone was a “Charismatic Leader”. His vision was to run the family and hold the territories in the future and keep a peace between all the parties. He was taking a risk by refusing to finance Sollozzo for his Narcotics business which would be unethical. He could make any member of the Corleone family to do anything he wanted. | HIGH | MODERATE | LOW | Agreeableness | | * | | Conscientiousness | * | | | Extraverted | | * | | Emotional Stability | * | | | Openness to Experience | | | * |
Santino Corleone (James Caan):
According to Ohio State Studies, Santino Corleone (James Caan) also portrays “Initiating Structure” theory which is also very intense. He fixes his own goals without taking any info from others when the Vito Corleone was assassinated. No sign of consideration is portrayed. Also If I had to choose from the University of Michigan Studies, I would say Santino Corleone was also a “Production Oriented Leader” who didn’t care
