The Golden-Crowned Sifaka or Tattersall's Sifaka
The golden-crowned sifaka, or Tattersall's sifaka, (Propithecus tattersalli) is a medium-sized lemur characterized by mostly white fur, prominent furry ears and a golden-orange crown. It is one of the smallest sifakas (genus Propithecus), weighing around 3.5 kg (7.7 lb) and measuring approximately 90 cm (35 in) from head to tail. Like all sifakas, it is a vertical clinger and leaper, and its diet includes mostly seeds and leaves. The golden-crowned sifaka is named after its discoverer, Ian Tattersall, who first spotted the species in 1974. However, it was not formally described until 1988, after a research team led by Elwyn Simons observed and captured some specimens for captive breeding. The golden-crowned sifaka most closely resembles the western forest sifakas of the P. verreauxi group, yet its karyotype suggests a closer relationship with the P. diadema group of eastern forest sifakas. Despite the similarities with both groups, more recent studies of its karyotype support its classification as a distinct species.
Found in gallery, deciduous, and semi-evergreen forest, its restricted range includes 44 forest fragments, totaling an area of 44,125 hectares (170.37 sq mi), centered around the town of Daraina in northeast Madagascar. Its estimated population is between 6,000 and 10,000 individuals. It is primarily active during the day, although it also tends to be active at dawn and dusk during the rainy season. It sleeps in tall emergent trees, and is preyed upon by the fossa. The golden-crowned sifaka lives in groups of around five to six individuals, with groups containing a balanced number of adult males and females. Scent is used to mark territories, which are defended by growling, chasing, and ritualistic leaping displays. Reproduction is seasonal, with gestation lasting six months and lactation lasting five months. Infants are weaned during the wet season to ensure the best chances of survival.

    The White-Nosed Coati (Nausa Narica) belongs to the Procyonidae family and is a relative of the raccoon. The most prominent feature that distinguishes Nausa Narica is it’s long tail, which extends to about 50 cm in length, and accounts for approximately half of its total body span. The white-nosed coati inhabits dry and moist forests all throughout South America where climbing trees are an important aspect of their day-to-day life. The main predators of the white-nosed coati, boas and hunting cats and birds of prey, are also adapted to arboreal life making efficient climbing and balance while climbing crucial for the coatis survival. The length of their tail thus presents itself as an acquired trait that enables them to maintain balance as they climb trees in addition to its uses in the social organization of the species. As Hass and Valenzuela (2002) observed in Nausa narica their tail has uses in the social organization within a population against the threat of predators. The length of their tail allows them to be seen over tall grasses and vegetation when on the ground, enabling them to communicate with each other as well as communicate to the predator that they have been identified as a potential threat. It has not yet been established whether the white-nosed coati would have the same survival and reproductive success in their environment with their existing predators if their tails were shorter in length resembling that of its close relative the raccoon, although it seems plausible. The length of the white-nosed coatis (Nausa narica) tail is an adaptation in response to the external threat of predators that affects their survival within their environment.…

    The banded anteater (Myrmecobius Fasciatus) is a small marsupial found only in Australia. The M.fasciatus has pale fur on the underbelly and coarse reddish-brown fur above on the back which is darkest on the rump refer to figure 1 (Sydenham, 2012).
