CHAPTER ONE: THE INTRODUCTION TO THE GOOD LIFE
“Are you sure this is what you really want?” asked Betsy. “Of course this is what I want to do!” replied Vivian as they walked into the local barbershop. Vivian was an idealist secretary at a local law office. Although she really liked her job, she dreamed of a better life of fame and grandeur.
Vivian sat down in the tall, uncomfortable barber chair as she asked him for the popular Clara Bow haircut. As the tall solemn barber began to cut off her long silky hair Vivian began to picture her new life. “Just think about it Betsy, I could be the next Roxanne Grace! Performing every night and having all the men bring me gifts … wouldn’t it just be wonderful!”

Vivian had also noticed herself pulling away from Henry. She hadn’t told him about the harsh things that Roxanne had said or about the stories that John told her. Instead she had become closer to John. After a few weeks she could see that he was beginning to have feelings for her. Although she was still with Henry, much to her dismay she began to have feelings for John. The new development between Vivian and John did not go un-noticed by Henry. One night after his weekly poker game he could not take it anymore. He dragged Vivian out of the main room and into the back office. He slapped her across the face and told her that he made her famous and if she didn’t quit talking to John he would take everything away from her. There was a loud knock on the door and then he was gone. Vivian fell to the floor crying. She heard the door open – she feared it was Henry again. Tension in the club became even thicker. Due to the fact that nobody knew who murdered Henry, everyone became cautious of each other. Vivian did not know whom to trust anymore. John swore that he was not the one who murdered Henry. Vivian didn’t want to think it was John who murdered her Henry but she couldn’t be sure. The detective was relentless but got nowhere.
Word around the club was that John murdered Henry for Vivian. Some believed that Vivian was the one who shot Henry to get revenge for him slapping her. Others believed it had to be his connection with the mob or other gangsters.
Days pasted and the killer still had not been identified. Without Henry, the Blue Heaven had no choose but to close its doors leaving everyone out on the street. Roxanne took a job at another club across town. John decided to get away from the life and change his life in a drastic way so he accepted a job at his father’s bank. Before Vivian knew it everyone was spread out across town. She did not know what to do with herself now that the club was gone. She was offered another gig at another club but she wasn’t sure if she really wanted the job.
