We are venturing again to Los Angeles this week where 1987 graduate, Corey Jackson, works as a film and television composer. After a movie is made, Corey meets with the director of the film to “spot” the film. This is the process of deciding where music should go in the film and what emotions the music should portray. After the spot, Corey writes the music for one scene at a time. Each composition is sent to the director for approval. Corey says that the director may like it the first time or may send it back with notes and suggestions for him to try again. “Once that is completed I, with the help of my team, will record, mix and deliver the music to the dubbing stage for final mix,” says Jackson. He also describes being on the set of a movie as not glamorous, contrary to what some may think. On a constant deadline, he says working is hard, time consuming, and challenging, but working with like minded people who all have the same ultimate goal and work ethic makes it easier.…

When adapting a well-known and loved play into a movie, the adaptor must keep in mind how the audience will react to a new version of a beloved story. An example of this is A Raisin in the Sun, which was adapted into a movie in 2008. Lorraine Hansberry wrote the original play and Paris Qualles adapted that play into a TV movie. The main themes of the story are family, faith, and hope. Following the narrative of a lower-class family living in Chicago in 1959, the play deals with racial tension, family issues, the journey from childhood to adulthood, and how each individual person impacts others around them, within the family unit and out in the world. Some minor issues with the play were resolved in the movie, such as the role of women and how they did not seem to have lives outside of the apartment. The 2008 movie adaptation stayed true to the original framework of the play while enriching the story for a modern audience.…

There are many life lessons in the movie Easy A, for example telling the truth, jumping to conclusions, and trust. First, telling the truth was a huge part in the movie Easy A, when Olive told Rhi that she was going on a date with this guy, instead of going camping with Rhi's family, when in reality she was at home in her room jamming out to Pocket Of Sunshine. So when they came back to school Rhi asked how the date went, Olive went with the lie and Rhi asked if they ended up having sex, Olive said yes, and the school ended up hearing about the lie. Second, jumping to conclusions is also a huge part in this movie, when everyone ended up hearing about Olive's fake sex life, they all jumped to conclusions or her being a whore. Another example…

The movie Matilda directed by Danny DeVito is about a little girl name Matilda who is enthusiastic and willing to learn but her parents on the hand do not care about that. Her parents are a grouchy couple that finally sends her to a school with a nice sympathetic teacher, Miss Honey, good friends, but a horrible principal, Miss Trunchbull. The moral of the story is that Miss Honey protects Matilda from Miss Trunchbull and her parents and eventually adopts Matilda because her parents want her to move.
