I wish to thank my husband, Erick, for his relentless faith and support. Without

his patience as I buried myself in books, internet searches and writing expeditions, this work would not have been possible.

I also wish to thank my business partner, David Bullock, for staying up with me

night after night, acting as a sounding board for my thought process as I articulated the assertions made in this work.

The most helpful resource that I found whilst translating the first eighteen verses of St. John’s Gospel was also the most detrimental. At some moments, comparing my own translation to others could lead to a better understanding of the overall passage, but it could also become more muddled if the other translator and I had different ideas as to what the original text meant. There were, of course, other times where both the other translations and mine came to the same idea, but worded it differently, which is simply aesthetic. In its totality, St. John’s Gospel was a challenge to translate, through comparing, searching for vocabulary, and tying everything together in a way that didn’t sound like a child wrote it, I was given a deeper understanding…

Two men approach me and claim that Jesus Christ was a man, but denied his deity. If I were to show them the truth, I would have to explain the biblical basis of Jesus' humanity, deity, explain how he can be both man and God, and explain what this all means to me. The Comedy of Errors is a play that takes place at one day in one place: Ephesus. The play begins with a long speech by Egeon, a Syracusian merchant who is facing execution if he does not pay a fine of a thousand marks, since there is a law that forbids the presence of Syracusian merchants in Ephesus. In order to explain why he is in Ephesus, Egeon tells the duke how his family was separated due to a shipwreck, leaving him behind with one of his twin sons and one of the slaves he bought for his sons. Five years earlier, Antipholus of Syracuse, the son that was left behind with Egeon, went on a quest to find his identical twin brother, accompanied by his slave Dromio of Syracuse (who also has a twin brother). When his son did not return, Egeon himself went to search for him and therefore arrived in Ephesus. The duke is moved by this story, and grants Egeon one day to pay his fine.…
