THIS IS A FICTIONAL NOVEL THAT FOLLOWS A CAST OF CHARACTERS LIVING IN THE TOWN OF WEST EGG ON PROSPEROUS LONG ISLAND IN THE
SUMMER OF 1922. THE STORY PREDOMINANTLY CONCERNS THE YOUNG AND SECRETIVE MILLIONAIRE JAY GATSBY AND HIS IMPRACTICABLE LUST
FOR THE BEAUTIFUL DAISY BUCHANAN.

IN THE STORY, NICK IS THE NARRATOR AS WELL AS A CHARACTER. THIS DUAL ROLE PROVIDES THE READER INSIDE INFORMATION TO THE PLOT AND
ABOUT CHARACTERS. NICK WRITES IN FIRST PERSON.

THE MOOD IS HAPPY AS JAY IS LIVING THE AMERICAN DREAM, BUT TURNS SOMBER AS IT IS CLEARLY DEPICTED THAT THE AMERICAN DREAM IS NOT

THE DRAWING MAKES US BELIEVE THAT THE
AMERICAN DREAM WILL LAST AS LONG AS ONE BELIEVES AND WORKS HARD. THE MUSICAL COMPOSITION TELLS US THAT
THE AMERICAN DREAM IS A HARD JOURNEY, AND SOMETIMES IT HELPS TO JUST LOOK BACK ON THE GLORY DAYS.

THE GREAT GATSBY DISPLAYS A LIFE OF MATERIAL THINGS, EXCESS AND ABUNDANCE. THE PAINTING AND SONG ARE MUCH
SIMPLER AND SHOW THAT LIFE CAN BE HAPPY WITH THE ESSENTIALS, GREAT MEMORIES AND THE COMFORT OF FRIENDS
AND FAMILY.

THE GREAT GATSBY DISPLAYS THE AMERICAN DREAM AS UNATTAINABLE. JAY GATSBY, ALTHOUGH WEALTHY BEYOND
REASON, IS NOT ABLE TO HAVE THE WOMAN HE LOVES. THE PAINTING AND THE SONG REPRESENT THE AMERICAN DREAM AS
VERY REAL AND ATTAINABLE, BUT IT TAKES A LOT OF HARD WORK.

THE GREAT GATSBY PORTRAYS THE AMERICAN DREAM AS JUST A DREAM AND THE SONG AND DRAWING DEMONSTRATES TO
THE VIEWER AND LISTENER THAT WITH A LOT OF HARD WORK THE AMERICAN DREAM TRULY CAN BE ACHIEVED.

THEMES AND MOODS

THE SIMULARIETIES AND DIFFERENCES ENHANCE MY UNDERSTANDING BY DRAWING ME (THE AUDIENCE) IN AND
TRULY CHALLENGE ME TO LOOK AT EACH PIECE OBJECTIVELY AND SUBJECTIVELY. WHEN WE CAN COMPARE

“The road to success is not easy to navigate, but with hard work, drive and passion, it's possible to achieve the American dream.” - Tommy Hilfiger. For most Americans, the definition of the American Dream is a set of ideals in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, and a high- class lifestyle for the family and children. This dream is achieved through hard work in a society with some barriers. The American Dream is a desire most people wish to achieve, however, even though this desire is achievable, it can also be easily corrupted. In the novel The Great Gatsby, the theme of the American Dream is clearly present and shown through the wealth, the excessive lifestyle, but more importantly, the downfall of the American Dream. This theme is portrayed by certain characters such as Jay Gatsby, Nick Carraway and Daisy Buchanan.…

When people think of the American Dream, they think of the stereotypical white picket fence, a nice home, and a nice family. What people sometimes don’t see or think of are the people who had different versions of what the American Dream is. Some think of becoming richer and more successful than their parents. Others think of being a person of power is the American Dream, but the American dream can be a little bit more simple. Starting out small and working to the top is a reasonable version of the Dream. Americans like Bob Hope and other celebrities have achieved this and many other things in their lifetime, but Hope had a little bit of something extra. He has made his way into the hearts of Americans for over seventy years, and he managed…
