In fact, Nick describes Gatsby as a character with hope and dreams, a man of success yet romantic for his classy lady Daisy. For example, Nick first meets Gatsby as he is looking across the bay to Daisy's dock and reaches out to the green light that shines his way, this illustrates the symbolic reference the author and the character development of Gatsby itself. Also, Gatsby can be seen clinging onto Daisy and losing the value of the "green light" since the light represented Gatsby's hopes to achieve Daisy, and when he received her presence he strayed away from reaching out for light. Though, Gatsby's dreams began before he met Daisy because his journey to success was only a fantasy before he met Dan Cody, before he set sail on to his quest.
