Nick Carraway is basically the best friend every guy wants. He doesn’t get sucked into all the drama that happens, he’s open-minded, and a good listener. Nick is careful. He picks up on the things that the others do. He is quiet, but he knows almost everyone’s secrets. He isn’t quick to judge. He says that “Reserving judgement is a matter of infinite hope.” (Fitzgerald, 2). This means that it is easier for Nick to reserve his judgment of people because to him everyone is equal. Everyone trusts him because he’s such a good listener and doesn’t participate in drama.

If he wasn’t there to keep everyone in a calm state by listening to their secrets the other characters would have tough time keeping the secrets themselves. Nick is the best friend any guy wants because of how he conducts himself and others. He positively affects the others lives because he is able to be trusted and be a person that they can come talk to without worries.
Nick Carraway is a good person. He allows the other characters in the book to do what they please and doesn’t step in where he shouldn’t. He allows for the others to find things out on their own because he knows it’s not his place to tell the secrets. He affects the other characters in a positive way by not creating or inputting on their drama.
