It is pretty clear that the music wasn't appropriate for the time period. It was the jazz age but artists like Jay Z and Lana Del Rey had songs featured in the film. While it could be argued that the current music added things to the movie, like a larger audience, the music just didn't fit correctly. The inclusion of such current music takes
away some of the 20’s feel of the setting. Though there are some people who would hate a movie because of its music, most people wouldn't hate the film if they included time appropriate jazz music.
Additionally, there was some very different scenes between the book and the movie. After Tom hits Myrtle, there is a scene in the book where Nick asks Mr. McKee to go out for dinner. In the movie this scene is skipped and that shows the characters lack of importance to the event. Also, when Gatsby meets Nick for the first time, he doesn’t ask Gatsby if he was in the war, and he doesn’t apologize for being a bad host, since Nick didn’t know who he was. At the end of the party, Gatsby doesn’t invite Nick for a trip on his plane, and the crash after the party was also skipped. But the most important detail skipped during the movie was “Owl Eyes”. He played a very important role in the story, even though he only appeared twice in the book. He was the only one of the people that used to go to Gatsby’s parties that went to his funeral. These scenes were important to the book and could've thickened the plot of the movie.
To conclude, even though there were many scenes that were shown just as they were described in the book, details that were very important were skipped and music was added that made the movie have a different feel.
