Another quote in which color sets a tone is, "Two girls in twin yellow dresses that stopped at the foot of the steps". The yellow dresses represent that the two girls have "bright" personalities and that they are probably very nice. Also, the quote, "The moon had risen higher and floating in the Sound was a triangle of silver scales. Saying that the sound was silver is saying that the sound is enchanting and relaxing. The next quote about color is, "We talked for a moment about some wet, grey little villages in France. Saying the villages are grey, the author explains that the villages are dull and boring because grey is most commonly associated with these two words. The last quote in the chapter also uses grey. "Her (Jordan Baker) grey sun-strained eyes stared straight ahead", means that her eyes are very dark and dull. This is saying that her personality is sort of dull.
Color is a very important part in explaining this chapter. The author used colors rather than direct adjectives to explain people's personalities and some scenes. Color can make a chapter boring, sad, or happy.
