The first art published, a succession of images of Kabuki actors. After his wife had passed and he was expelled from the Katsukawa school, Hokusai became more interested in landscapes and daily Japanese life and less on actors. It was not until his later life and after the height of his fame that he painted the famous The Great Wave (katsushikahokusai.org , 2017).

Fuji in the distance. At 3776 meters, the highest mountain in Japan appears but a small pyramid, while in comparison the wave looks like a tremendous entity bursting with an enormous amount of energy” (galleryIntell 2018). This analysis really shows the distance between the wave and the mountain.
Based on the estimated 32 foot tall wave and 3776 meter mountain, one can conclude that due to the perspective appearance of the wave being taller than the mountain, the distance between the two is vast.
Balance:
While many view balance as stable or an equal distribution. The balance of The Great Wave is the opposite, asymmetrical, drawing emphasis to the large wave that takes up more than half of the print, leaving the viewer to feel a visual heaviness on the left side.
