I have read the award winning novel from 1996, written by the very famous horror author Stephen King. He has wrote countless classic horror books, one of them being the world famous book version of the film IT. Stephen King is from Portland America, just like most of his books the green mile being no exception.
The genre of the book - The Genre of the book The Green Mile is a mix between four different genres. Fiction, crime, dark fantasy, Gothic and historical fiction.
The setting - The entire book is set at two different major settings, as the novel switches in time. One of them being the old, dark and torn down Cold Mountain Penitentiary during the early 1930s, home of the famous electric chair called old sparkly in the book . The other being the remote Georges Pines Nursery home in 1996. The majority of the novel is told by the first person narrative Paul Edgecomb from the Death Row at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary, which is called the Green Mile in the book. He works at the death row of the Cold Mountain penitentiary in 1932, the year of a very unexpected arrival of the death sentenced John Coffey. John Coffey is an african american giant standing 6 feet 8 inches tall, weighing more than 350 pounds. He was sentenced to death for raping and murdering two young girls. This was the same year as Paul had the worst urinary infection of his life. All of the guards working at the Green Mile as John Coffey arrived was terrified by his pure size, looking like he could tear the chains locked around his big legs and arms with ease. When he gets settled at the green mile it turns out that he is terrified of darkness and most other things as he constantly weeps.
