The Handsomest Drowned Man In The World, By Gabriel Garcia Marquez
“So that is how to create a single story, show a people as one thing, as only one thing, over and over again, and that is what they become.” (Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, TED) This quote shows how she believes that story is what shapes people into the people they are. From that story is an example of humility it would make the world a better place by making people more humble and more able to work in a community well. Story is important for bringing people together in community because the stories show humility. For example, in “The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World”, Marquez states “They wept so much, for he was the most destitute, most peaceful, and most obliging man on earth, poor Esteban” (Marquez). This shows how the women of the village …show more content…
In addition, in “How Buzzard Got His Feathers”, it says “Although some make fun of the way he looks, Buzzard still remembers that he was the only one who could make that long journey for all the birds” (How Buzzard Got His Feathers). This shows that Buzzard has immense humility because even though people make fun of him he still knows he looks the way he does because he sacrificed his appearance for all the other birds. When Buzzard shows humility he isn’t just putting one person above himself, he is putting the whole community of birds above himself. Furthermore, Marquez states “they also knew that everything would be different from then on, that their houses would have wider doors, higher ceilings, and stronger floors so that Esteban’s memory could go everywhere without bumping into beams and so that no one in the future would dare whisper the big boob finally died, too bad, the handsome fool had finally died, because they were going to paint their house fronts gay colors to make Esteban’s memory eternal and they were going to break their backs digging for springs among the stones and planting flowers on the cliffs so that in the future years at dawn the passengers on great liners would awaken,

Authors get across their ideas by using literary devices. Gabriel Garcia Marquez used a beautiful drowned man in "The Most Handsome Drowned Man" to develop his message that inspiration can come from anywhere. Seeing that Esteban had lived a miserable life because of his height, it made the villagers change things around so that no one will ever be called "too tall" again. Seeing as he lived a sad life had made the villagers want to live happier and more fulfilling lives. Therefore the fact that Esteban had had a miserable life made them want to live happier lives.…

In the story, “The Handsomest Drowned Man in The World,” Esteban is described by the village people in an exaggerated way, making the story not believable. Gabriel Garcia Marquez describes the drowned man with much exaggeration making the story unrealistic. Esteban, the drowned man who washed upon shore, is described many times as being unbelievably heavy, tall, and handsome. Many readers probably question how a dead man that has been floating at sea can be handsome. The village people feel that this dead man is powerful almost like a god and needs to be cared for “so he can continue through his death with dignity.”…

This short story, “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, is an example of magic-realism. Through this story, Marquez introduces four concepts with regard to how we might react to certain things like the presence of an angel or a miracle. These kinds of divine events are very common in Hispanic culture; most of them are just folklorism. Marquez creates a story that is very detailed but is opposite to the reality of angels that we’re familiar with, specially the Catholic Church’s depiction of an angel as a prominent creature, not the person described in the story.…

“Keep love in your hearts. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead.”-Oscar Wilde Wilde hints at, that without love, your heart is like dead flowers in a sunless garden. Whereas, if there is love in your heart, your garden is full of blooming flowers. Love is a strong connection between people or objects that means a lot to them. By reading between the lines, authors like Sherman Alexie and Harper Lee use their writing crafts to make readers look more into the book in a deeper angle. Looking at To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, throughout her text, she adds figurative language and foreshadowing to show the readers upcoming events that might occur. Which affects the reader's thoughts while reading the text because writing crafts like figurative language spark ideas and reveal characterization. In the start of the book, the main character Atticus teaches his daughter Scout about open-mindedness. Lee writes, "'First of all,' he said, 'If you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point…

Lao Tzu once said, “Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” Through the stories “The Most Handsomest Drowned Man in the World’ and “In the family” one can see the connection between love and the influence it has over one’s character. María Elena Llano and Gabriel García Marquez both portray the metaphor that love has an everlasting impact on the people it encounters through changed mentality and lifestyle of characters, as well as through the memories of loved ones. Foremost, Marquez communicates the metaphor of everlasting love in the story, “The Most Handsomest Drowned Man in the World” by the changes the villagers made to their environment. This is shown by, “But they knew everything would be different from then, that their houses would have wider doors, taller roofs, firmer floors, so that the memory of Esteban could walk everywhere without running into crossbeams” (Marquez, 4).…
