Henna Party and history
* The henna * A party before the wedding * A Moroccan tradition * The night before or a couple days before wedding * Usually only for the bride * It is tradition to wear caftan which is a gown made of beautiful bold colors and embroider with beads and gold threads * All the women gather in a room to dress the bride to be * Strong family men carry bride to be on a thorn like chair * In front of the thorn are belly dancers and relatives holding light candles * It is all very gaudy and fun * The men are preparing the groom in a similar manner * The woman are clapping when bride comes out * The bride and groom are brought into the main room * They are brought to a separate corner * A very lavish setup involving jewelry * The jewelry is provided by the two family * The jewelry is normally handed down from generation to generation * The mother of bride prepares the henna * Henna is a powder that is mixed with boiling water and perfume * Then the henna is put on the right hand of the bride and groom * They tie their hands together with a silk ribbon and wish the a long and happy life together * All the gest get the henna after and receive good wishes
Once long ago the henna plat was tall as a tree, and the leaves were as big as the palm leaves. In a town a women has fallen gravely sick, her husband called many great artist to draw henna designs upon her feet, hands, and arms. The family believed that the henna could cure the sick, repel the evil eye, and other evils. As time passed the women did not get any better. The husband started to lose faith in the henna, he brought an old wise man forth. The man took the henna he drew a moon on the women’s right hand. The wise man told the husband that the power of the moon is stronger than the henna. Miraculously the women got better, sadly the henna plant shrunk
