You'd think he was raised Amish or something. In any case, I set about educating him on all the culture he had missed. There was no way he could be in a relationship with me and not have any knowledge of such cinematic icons.

The Ten Commandments has become a staple in our household and we watch it every year around Easter. Bob thinks Ramses is hilarious and for several weeks afterwards will go around saying,

The lessons in this reading are twofold; they were applied to situations during Jesus’ lifetime as well as they are still applicable in today’s society.…

When people think of a hero they think of a good looking, strapping man wearing tights and a cape with powers that will save you when you are in trouble. When it comes to Homer’s Odysseus in The Odyssey he has the looks but not the powers, tights or the cape. What makes him a hero is how well rounded he is. A great hero has to have three traits, they have to be strong, smart, and sensitive and Odysseus has all three.…

The Ten Commandments are the divine rules of conduct given to Moses on Mount Sinai. To many, there exists only one version of the Ten Commandments- the generalized “thou shall not” version. However, The Ten Commandments occurs in two places found in the Torah, first in the book of Exodus and second in the book of Deuteronomy. Though these two accounts may for all practical purposes seem identical, at a closer examination several differences begin to arise. Separated by several decades in time, by audience the accounts were directed to, and by what each account attempts to portray these versions begin to differ in meaning entirely.…

Modern heroes have to be brave, strong and smart. Even in Winnie the Pooh, they understand that heroism has changed. “Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” (A.A. Milne, author of Winnie the Pooh) Harper Lee’s “To Kill A Mockingbird” is not so different, it also has a pretty obvious example of a modern hero. The novel takes place during the Great Depression and is about two young children (Jem and Scout ) who are exposed to the harsh reality of the society as they grow up. Since their father (Atticus ) is defying racism and he defends a black men convicted with fake charges, they are brought in contact with the hate of the community. Throughout the book, we…

Webster’s dictionary defines diversity as, “the condition of being different: variety.” The United States of America is very diverse. We have had some influential people that have helped steer us in the ways that we know diversity today. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was very influential in changing the way many white Americans looked at African- Americans during the 1960’s. Long before Dr. King marched on Selma, Alabama and gave his “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington, D.C., Abraham Lincoln tried to change the culture of America by freeing the slaves in 1865 with the Emancipation Proclamation. However, one hundred years later, African-Americans still did not have the same rights as white Americans. They could not ride in the front of the bus, enter the same door of a restaurant, drink from the same water fountain, or attend the same schools as whites. Because of Dr. King’s determination and leadership, the culture of America began to change. In 2008, we saw the greatest example of this change with the election of the first African-American President of the United States, Barack Obama.…
