It was the summer of 2013 and my sister and I were staying at Los Angeles with our close relatives.
I was in 6th grade, going into seventh grade. We were there for the whole summer to have fun and be on vacation. One day, my sister, Sylvia, got a call from our parents and brother, who stayed at San Francisco. Sylvia then tells me that my brother, Fernando, and I that we’re going to a Catholic school. At first I thought it was a joke, so I didn’t believe her. Who would leave their school and all their friends just for a Catholic school, where you don’t know anyone? No way. When we returned home to San Francisco, a couple of weeks before school started, my grandmother tells me about my new school. I was devastated to find out that I was going to leave my old school and all of my friends. I thought to myself that I was getting punished, but actually it was for my own good. Since it was already summer, I couldn’t see all of my friends, I had to say goodbye to them digitally. As well as accept the fact I’m entering a new world.
