The Highwayman
The Highwayman a poem wrote by the poet Alfred Noyes is well known and has been given good reviews.Personally I would give it a five out of ten ,why you might ask I will tell. But if you have never read this well here is a little summary. There was the woman and a highwayman which is basically a thief, the highwayman told her that he is leaving to get a treasure and to watch for him by moonlight. When they are talking, Tim the ostler is listening so we assume that he was suspicious and told King George's men. So his men come and they tie up the girl and place a musket under her breasts, she remembers what the highwayman told her. Here are some examples “Dark red love knot”,His face was white and peaked”, and “Wine-red was his velvet coat”. All of this poem’s imagery give a solid picture in your mind of what it is describing looks like. The imagery is so good that it is like watching a movie in your mind.Man that can’t even describe how good it is. It feels like virtual but not virtual reality.It hits like a boulder falling on your face and that is really good in a poem but not in reality. I could go on and on about how good it is but that would take a while. Now is time for the worst part in this poem,cue Jaws theme.Actually it is so good why not probably the best example( man this is going to be great).Ok here is the diamond in the pile of gold”Blood red were his spurs in the golden noon”.
Metaphors ,oh man is this part bad.First of all the main point of this is that there are only two I repeat about two metaphors in this poem.This is the worst part in this poem, this is why it gets a five out of ten. Yeah,Yeah imagery is solid well this liquid. No,no wait not liquid, gas.Yeah there is action people get shot there is blood. The action is like a fog covering the metaphor stinker and next to the metaphor is not fog but skunk spray .Now I know I am being harsh about it and it is not a big problem but it still is a problem. Now time to see the final results of today's
