T he Hindenburg crashed on May 6th 1937 in New jersey. The Hindenburg was built in 1931 and was finished in 1936 the framework was made of a sturdy material called duralumin. It was very fancy and luxurious on the inside and was the biggest aircraft ever made. The Hindenburg was one of the first disasters caught on camera and was the first major air disaster in America. 35 people died when the Hindenburg crashed and 62 people lived most of the people lived surprisingly. The Hindenburg was completely unsalvageable and could not be saved the only thing left was the frame which was also burnt to a crisp.
The size of the Hindenburg was massive it was 803.8 feet long and had a diameter of 135.1 feet. To give you an idea
the St. Louis Arch is 630 feet tiny compared to the Hindenburg. It is the biggest aircraft ever to fly passengers it was also the first aircraft to make a transatlantic voyage. The Hindenburg also included a smokers lounge that was air tight but, no one knows how the disaster happened. The Hindenburg had 7 million cubic square feet to put that into perspective Sam’s club is 190,000 square feet tiny in comparison to the Hindenburg.
After the Hindenburg crash no more zeppelins could be made with hydrogen and had to be made with helium. The Hindenburg also randomly exploded no one expected it to happen and they had no warning what so ever it shocked everyone. The Hindenburg was supposed to land earlier in the day but bad weather conditions delayed the landing I think that could have cost them their fate. If they landed earlier in the day then maybe the people on board could have been able to escape.
The Hindenburg was a significant disaster because it was one of the first disasters to be live broadcasted into the homes of Americans across the country. In 1975 a movie was made about the Hindenburg later in 2011 another movie was made about the Hindenburg. The 1975 movie made 27.9 million dollars in the box office and had a budget of 15 million.
