Baseball is often considered Americas past time, but it is actually not Americas first sport. And a lot of people think that hockey is Canada’s only national sport, but you would be wrong, hockey is Canada’s national winter sport, and lacrosse is Canada’s national summer sport. Throughout the history of lacrosse it has greatly evolved and developed to what it is today. The game of lacrosse was first documented in 1636 by the Native American Indians. Most people do not know this but lacrosse is the older than baseball, therefore lacrosse is truly “Americas Past-time”. Lacrosse is deeply rooted in Native American religious beliefs, it is also known as “The Creators Game”. It is said that in a traditional Native American game of lacrosse there can be upwards of 1,000 players on a field of up to 15 miles long. Today we only have 20 players at a time 10 on each team consisting of 3 attack men, 3 middies, 3 defenders, and 1 goalie, on a field that isn’t even 100 yards. Throughout the sports history it has developed four specific positions. In the modern game of lacrosse there are 4 specific positions, middies, attack men, defense, and goalie. The position that is perhaps the most important is the midfielders; these players should be the best all-around athletes because they roam the whole field and are in charge of transitioning the ball from defense to offensive. The next positions is the attack men who spend almost the entire game in the opponent’s end of the field, they are not allowed to cross the midfield line, and the attack men have to be very agile and quick because they take the most shots on the goal. The third position is the defenders or also known as long poles; they are the players who dictate to the opponents attack where they can go, and where they will be punished for going. They need to be very physical. They have much longer sticks up to nearly 60" long which allow them to disrupt the opponents attack. Position on the field is the
