An important aspect of the film is that characters from both sides of the yard trespass to each other´s side. As described previously, Lisa and Stella go to the yard to discover what is in the box Throwald burry and this way Lisa becomes part of Jefferies´ fantasy. On the other hand, Thorwald at the end goes to Jeff´s apartment, it could be said that he “goes out of the screen” is materialized in reality. Thorwald assaults Jefferies; he is aggressive and tries to kill him (Stam & Pearson, 203). This could show the aggressive way in which art and the story shocks the audience by not only showing a theme about murder but by leading into a behavior that in real life wouldn´t be performed such as spying on other people, but at the end of the film…

Film Noir, meaning “black film’ in French, was the trending style and genre in American culture between the 1940s and the 1950s. It is a combination of European cynicism and the American landscape. Film Noir has its origins from German Expressionism and French Poetic Realism. Nino Frank, who was a French film critic, was the first to introduce this black and white genre to Hollywood in 1946. Many of the directors who introduced Film Noir where refugees from Nazi, Germany. From that moment in time, it became a popular genre for all films being produced in Hollywood. It became a popular genre because it managed to create a plot with excessive visual and urban style, and a sense of ambiguity. Plots of Noir films are composed of some kind of murder…
The film takes place in two timelines and involves two couples from different continents. The Australian couple, Walt and Ruth, lives in the present and are bickering on account of the husband’s obsession to catch flies that to his wife’s dismay, resulted to the neglect of his household chores. The Filipino couple lives in the memory of the husband, Jessie. He remembers his wife, Appollonia, as an activist writer who died during the height of martial law in the Philippines.…
In 1952 there were multiple fantastic films that made it a close competition for best picture. I narrowed down my list of movies to The Quiet Man, High Noon, and The Greatest Show on Earth. I narrowed it down to these three because Moulin Rouge and Ivanhoe did not perform up to the standards it needed to have a chance at best picture. By thoroughly evaluating these films it has been determined that The Greatest Show on Earth clearly deserved to win its best picture award becuase of its emotional scenes, creative film techniques, and an impactful ending with a twist.…

Another big challenge was the town Morris’s family moved to, they didn’t care for baseball and there was nowhere to play. In the end, an injury ended his career and he knew it was time to give it up. Eventually, Morris got married and had three children,…
After watching Tough Guise I immediately wanted to pick the subject of men and women’s change of image from 50 years ago to todays images. I never really took a good look at male action figures and how they have added an overwhelming amount of muscle to the character. However, I do not feel that the change in muscle tone from athletes or super heroes are done just for image sake. There has been man advances in muscle growth and athletes today have an extreme advantage over athletes 50 years ago. With new weight training and muscle growth beverages, people are able to grow bigger muscle faster. Therefore a super hero should have just as big of muscle as Lebron James or any other star athlete.…

This essay will take an in-depth look at the history of Hollywood during the late 60s and early 70s. This period of time is considered to have been a renaissance for American cinema, and was titled the ‘New Hollywood’ by cotemporary critics of the time. In order to understand the changes that Hollywood went through the late ‘60s, you first have to examine the preceding era of Hollywood filmmaking during the 30s and 40s. This was a period that is commonly referred to as Hollywood’s Golden Age; when the dream factories were in full swing and the audiences were in regular attendance. This period of time could be defined by a number of social, political or economic contexts, but it’s the filmmaking practices that were employed at the time which…
Dope is a film directed by filmmaker Rick Famuyiwa, released in 2015 about three high school students that get caught up in a huge drug scheme. The story revolves around Malcolm and his two best friends, Jib and Diggy, as they find themselves with a huge possession of drugs following the birthday party of Dom: the local drug dealer. Malcolm comes to terms that he must sell all the drugs while concurrently making sure he gets accepted into Harvard. The movie is filled with adventure, comedy, drugs, etc., yet there is a larger thesis depicted throughout the film, which is the presumption and stereotypes associated with being a young black male. This film essentially challenges the predetermined stereotype that all young black men are bound to…

In the movie “Bernie”, we follow the story and between a Carthage, Texas funeral director Bernie Tiede, and his co-dependent relationship with a wealthy widow, Marjorie Nugent. As “Bernie” unfolds, we see the companionship turn for the worse as Ms. Nugent’s ill-temper causes Bernie to snap – and lands her dead in her freezer. This movie brings up some questions, specifically regarding image. After analysis, the question I keep coming back to is “Was Bernie genuine and sincere? Or was it all a façade?” Although Bernie committed a horrible crime, I believe the answer to this question is “yes”- Bernie was a genuine man.…
Throughout history, women have been denounced their civil rights; thus, women have fought persistently for equality. In Akron, Ohio, 1851, a Women’s Rights Convention took place in battle for women’s suffrage. It was at this convention where significant figure Sojourner Truth, used rhetorical strategies in her speech, “And Ain’t I a Woman?”, to challenge the idea that women, specifically African American women, are inferior. Truth establishes her credibility and logically appeals to her audience to achieve her purpose of fostering equal rights between men and women.…
