While thinking about the initial impressions one formed of Foxconn as one read the case. To what degree did stereotyping influence ones’ thoughts, how did the additional information about the firm change ones’ initial impression and while the manual labor of assembling electronics is challenging for Foxconn employees, the workers may also face emotional burdens of being away from family and isolation from the outside world. After additional information I realized that Foxconn is a great company who shelters their employees from criminal elements of China but have internal and external issue they need to solve. Yes, todays demand for certain products are a must, but issue like mandatory overtime and working minors are obscured because people should have opinions or say so over overtime. Children shouldn’t be worked at all, but maybe they need to work to help support their families. Children if worked due to certain circumstances should work minimum hours and no overtime. Most of the incidents that happen at Foxconn was started by new employees like most of the suicides and the riots. They need to create a mentor program for new employees coming on board for the first time. It can be very stressful thing, leaving home for the very first time, your workplace and living place is the same, also by adding mandatory overtime this can put any person in a stressful shell if they don’t know how to cope with it. For instances, one has a sick love one at home, has a spouse at home, has children at home, has parents at home and due to mandatory overtime can’t go home for the weekends to visit them this could be detrimental to their psyche which could have them acting out and spinning out of control.
