The Hunger Games was written by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games generates suspense, action, and science fiction, and a form of dictatorship. The setting is in Panem, formerly North America. Part of the book is in District 12, near the Appalachian Mountains. It is set in the future.
Katniss Everdeen is the main character in the Hunger Games. She is sixteen years old; she is determined, loving, and caring. She has straight black hair that is usually braided. She has olive-colored skin. Her nickname, given by Gale, is Catnip, when he first met her in the woods when they were hunting. Her sister's name is Primrose Everdeen. Peeta lives in a family of bakers. He has loved Katniss since they were 5 years old. His last name is Mellark. He is also sixteen. He has great strategy, selflessness, and a likable personality. He has blonde hair, which is unusual for District 12, and olive skin. He was chosen as the other tribute for District 12. He also saved Katniss and her family from starving, by giving her bread that he purposely burnt for them, so his parents wouldn't know he gave it to them. Cinna is Katniss' stylist and friend. He is creative, clever, and caring.
Rue is a small bird-like girl from District 11. Her other tribute is Thresh from District 11. She reminds Katniss of Prim. Rue dies in the Hunger Games. Cato, from District 2, is extremely strong, and was expected to win. He placed third in the Games. Haymitch Abernathy was Katniss and Peeta's mentor. He is the only living tribute from District 12. He is always drunk and has a knife. He sends gifts to Katniss in the Games to help her survive. Madge, the mayor's daughter, gives Katniss the Mockingjay pin for good luck. Effie Trinket was Katniss and Peeta's escort for the Games. She is a proper person. She drew out the tributes for the 74th Hunger Games. Prim Everdeen is Katniss' little sister.
