Chertoff was the head of Homeland Security in 2005 to 2009. To his thinking, since the end of the Cold War, three developments have profoundly changed the world and therefore the world of security threats. One was that globalization radically changed the potential impact of a network or even an individual, offering the ability to travel, communicate, and exchange money. Two, the technology revolution has allowed people to cause massive destruction with just the push of a button. The third was the increase of “ungoverned space” where there is no true rule of law, has enabled terrorists to recruit, plan, and train undetected.…
Globalization has not only had an effect of physical crime, but also a substantial impact on cybercrimes. As we have become ever more reliant on computer based technology in our lives, computer hackers are continuously given new…
One of the events prior to 9/11 that I believe also significantly contributed to shaping homeland security in the present was the Cold War. The differences between the Cold War and the War on Terror were of course the time, the place, and the people who were involved but the main difference were the cause of each war. The U.S. got involved with Korea and Vietnam because the US wanted to stop the spread of communism coming from countries like the U.S.S.R. The US declared war against Afghanistan because of terrorist actions of 9/11 to stop the spread of terrorism in the future. Reasons like these are what shaped the homeland security program, Americans fear that there are people out there who will directly and/or indirectly harm this country.…
The most prominent threat in contemporary society is the effects of the War of Terror, such as 9/11 and the influences of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS. However, there is an emerging terrorism threat to the United States that President Obama had to start dealing with. This is the threat of domestic cyber-security not being maintained and sustained. President Obama once gave a speech at the 2015 Cyber-security and Consumer Protection Summit in Stanford California’s honored university.…
The evolution of Homeland security started in September 11, 2011. When terrorist took control of 4 flights in the United States and planed to kill millions of lives including their own lives. Everyone knows this day as 9/11. When ex-president George W. Bush created the Department of Homeland Security act of 2002. One main reason that a Homeland Security Assessment needs to be conducted for an organization is to protect their infrastructure. The need for this assessment would be more crucial if an organization was identified as a high risk of being a potential target. Organizations that would fall under this umbrella would include but are not limited to “sea and water ports, airports, gas pipelines, sewer and power plants as well as biological or chemical facilities” (Fisher, 2014). In this day and time, we can also add educational facilities to this list, as there have been several attacks on universities that were believed to have been terrorist related.…
The evolution of Homeland Security seems like a relatively new one, but really the history leading up to it began in the 1800s. Over time, however, improved preparedness, response and recovery, and creation of certain protective documents influenced how we view Homeland Security today. Bottom line, Homeland Security and its governing documents, specifically the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and National Response Framework (NRF), exist for a reason, these reasons and the documents are important to review.…

The concept of homeland security is not new; since the bloody birth of the United States in 1776, Americans have been engaged in securing and defending the homeland. However, the current manifestation of the expression Homeland Security was created in the crucible of modern terrorist attacks, most notably that of September 11, 2001. As Noftsinger, Newbold, and Wheeler (2007) note, today’s idea of homeland security was created in response to the increasing terrorist threat, when it was recognized that the increased terrorist threat could not be combatted through conventional means.…
Evolutionary biology and Creationism are both alike and different in many ways. Evolutionary biology is known as an “interdisciplinary field”. That is because it is known to include scientists from a wide range of both field and lab oriented disciplines. Evolutionary biology includes scientist who have special training in mammalogy, ornithology, and herpetology. Creationism only has one creator, which is God. God is the one and only scientist and creator of Creationism.…
