The Impact of Social Network
The impact of social networks.

Social networking is a very important part of today’s world. For students who are around twenty years old and even younger, we cannot not belong to any networking website.
Social networking has many positive effects but also negative ones.

Through Facebook or AsmallWorld, we can now organize our lives. By publishing open invitations to parties or exhibitions or any kind of events, we can have a social life. By posting photos of what is happening in our lives or what happened the night before, we leave a shadow to our friends, and so do they. We can also have the possibility to chat with our friends who are all around the world. The most amazing thing is that we do all of this behind the screen of our computer. By being a member of a group (defending an idea), we can start speaking with people we would have never thought about. For example, through AsmallWorld, which is a website created for “wealthy people who want to share ideas, good plans and opportunities” we can find internships, jobs, even advice about the best hotels to go to ;You can even find cars, watches or yachts to buy. When speaking about this way of networking we could think that social websites do only make your life easier without any negatives points.

The main danger of theses websites is the fact that all the information is published on the internet. As it is said in “A privacy paradox”, “Sitting at home alone typing into a computer may feel like a private exchange” but in reality it is not the case. We have the example of this girl that called her boss in the morning saying that she was sick and he actually had her on Facebook and saw the pictures of her drunk the night before. She has been of course fired from her job. This shows that whatever we post on the internet can be seen by anyone at any time but unfortunately against us.

Some other problems can result from publishing information and photos on the internet. For example, my father learned

The first (and most commonly) discussed aspect of the internet has to be social interaction. Sites such as Facebook and Twitter allow the earth’s population to pose their views on a subject while also having just as much say as another person. “Social Networking sites are a place where sexual predators and internet hackers are free to wreak havoc” this is a very common counter statement to social networking sites. I feel, however that these issues (while not insignificant) are simply not sufficient to provide an argument against all those positive things that these sites can do for a person.…

Social networking sites are not good for today’s society particularly because social networking sites have very limited privacy, influence cyber bullying, and have an impact on a person’s future. Proving that social networking sites have led people to using less face-to-face communication, sites have become one of the world’s most dangerous hobbies without having to even physically interact. Social-networking sites prove more of a distraction than a useful tool. The inundation of friend requests and insignificant news feeds on sites like Facebook eat up valuable time that could be spent solidifying contacts in person. Nothing has changed the internet more than the rise of social networking sites. Before social networking, the Internet was full of interesting information, but there was little opportunity to contribute a person’s ideas or participate in intellectual discussions.…

It is readily acknowledged that students are active users of social media. However, research has also shown the majority of students use social media for personal reasons, rather than for academic needs. In many academic circles, more discussion centres on the concern of faculty "friending" potential students or students attempting to "friend" faculty members. These issues seem to focus more on the policies of the potential impropriety of social media communication, rather than concentrating on how social media tools can be used to enrich and engage students and faculty in the teaching and learning process.…
