The environmental impacts associated with large spread dams often have significant adverse effects on the surrounding population ("The Three Gorges Dam Project," n.d.). The Three Gorges Dam is now distinct. ("The Yangtze River," n.d.). The formation of the close and combined
reservoir has impacts both upstream and downstream. It affects some endangered species along with water quality. However, it could aggravate the likelihood of earthquakes and mudslides in the region.
The demolition of the villages also leads to problems of uncleanness ("The Three Gorges Dam Project," n.d.). The Yangtze River is continuously being polluted because of the shipping of charcoal, which is crucial to Chinese industrial energy. Pollutants from towns and waste dumps during floods will add to waste. Some funds were set up to aid in cleaning the area for the reservoir, but only the future will show whether a satisfactory thrust was done ("The Three Gorges Dam Project," n.d.). Water moves slower in the river and some are concerned that the uncleanness will deteriorate water quality.
