34Over the summer I attended Fayette EdCamp and went to a session called BreakoutEdu. I had heard about this learning game at GAFE South Summit but was unable to attend that session due to the limited space. This innovative learning experience piqued my interest and so I went to learn more about BreakoutEdu at Fayette EdCamp.
Breakoutedu works by using whole group or teams of students working together to
following written instructions. Student teams decode clues and complete tasks; which allow them to open the breakout box, within a given period of time. All the while, they are practicing content skills they have recently studied in class.
By the end of the BreakoutEdu session, I learned how this student-centered learning activity functions: it will challenge teams to persevere when faced with complex problems, enhance problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities, and build communication skills. This flexible educational game can be used across all curriculum content areas.
When I incorporate BreakoutEdu into my classroom, students will experience increased critical thinking and problem solving in a fun and creative way.
