More than 20,000 people have been ordered to evacuate, also authorities encouraged others to prepare “ready-to-go bags” with supplies in case they are ordered to evacuate. Sonoma County Sheriff Rob Giordano suggested
that people who had been advised to prepare, that they should just leave anyway. Rob Giordano stated, “Traffic is bad in the county. If we have to evacuate people, it’d be better to have you (already) out of the area. If you have a place to go, go. We are very concerned about all the fire lines, because of the wind they’re anticipating.”
Of the 21 people who had died in the fires, 11 were killed in the Tubbs wildfire in Sonoma Country making it the sixth-deadliest fires in recorded California history. More than 500 people have been reported missing in Sonoma Country alone, stated by authorities. Yet, more than 100 other people who had been declared missing were recently found safe. Giordano says he expects the death toll to rise, because the authorities can’t get to most of the affected areas. Giordano stated, “When we start doing searches, I expect that number to go up.”
Officials said on Wednesday that about 8,000 firefighters are involved in trying to contain the flames. Along with 550 fire trucks, 73 helicopters, and 30 planes. Many families are still stuck in a frantic search for those that have been reported missing. Authorities believe communication issues have prevented people from contacting relatives. In conclusion, thousands of firefighters are fighting tirelessly to combat the blazes and search for missing people.
