My case study was the concussion crisis in the NFL. I believe the ethical moment was when Mike Webster died and it was discovered the he had CTE. At this moment when the connection between football the CTE was first proposed, that was the moment that action needed to be taken. Due to the NFL taking a defensive or denial approach many more players suffered and feared of having or possibly having CTE. I believe I would have made a public statement, the reason for the NFL to not make an official release was money driven. While it would have been difficult, a pay check and reputation is not worth more than a person’s…

Would you rather be a Peyton Manning fan and love the broncos or be a fan of the Indianapolis Colts who own a multi- million dollar stadium in downtown Indy. Most bronco fans where colts fan but changed to the broncos when they got Peyton Manning. Once again, the slight advantage goes to the Broncos. Quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck have remarkably similar statistics, but Manning has been better defended. In the defensive statistics, the two teams are very close but the Broncos have the edge in this category too. Here's what linebacker Von Miller had to say about the Broncos' pass rush in the upcoming playoff game:"That is every week. You want to affect the quarterback. You just don’t want to have it seven on seven. We have great cornerbacks—probably…
The Rooney Rule was created in 2002 when two head football coaches were fired. Those two football coaches are Tony Dungy and Dennis Green who both had successful careers as head football coaches. Both Dungy and Green are African Americans and civil rights leaders led by Johnnie Cochran felt there was a need to look into why there were very few minority coaches in the NFL, especially those who are just as successful as white head coaches. The importance of the Rooney Rule in the NFL is that from here on out every franchise has an obligation to interview at least one minority for their head coaching vacancy. All 32 NFL teams must accept the law and there are no exclusions to the rule. Diversity is a topic of discussion in the year 2017…

The NFL makes an average of 8 billion dollars in revenue a year, some years making over 10 billion dollars in a single season. All of the money coming directly or indirectly from fans. Making NFL teams publicly owned and traded where anybody could purchase a stock and be a “owner.” Some people say that if NFL teams were publicly owned unpopular teams would not sell as many stocks therefore not being able to fund their team's needs. If NFL teams where publicly owned the NFL as an organisation would make much more money.…
On September 7, 1963, the Pro Football Hall of Fame officially opened its doors in Canton, Ohio. Although it started as a small project, with the help of several expansions and renovations, it is now one of the most renowned places that Ohio has to offer, particularly in the world of sports. Now, with the help of the most recent project, the “Future 50,” the Hall of Fame is 118,00 square feet, compared to the 19,000 square feet it began with 54 years ago. The museum completed a 27 million dollar renovation in 2013, and inside, includes several galleries, archives and an adventure room.…

Over the past decades, what has continued to be one of the most debatable issues in the world of sports is whether or not college football players should get paid. My honest opinion is football that players should receive a certain proportion of money because of the service that college athletes provide to the institution they attend. In addition, they should be rewarded in a reasonable manner after putting their bodies out on the line, bringing in a tremendous amount of money, it will help with the football athletes to begin creating a sense of financial awareness, and finally it will attract more talented athletes.…
College is a place to start your own future and to be finally out of mom and dad's house and not to be paid for playing a sport. Some people think that college football players should be paid. But others say they shouldn’t be paid because if you get money to go to that school you don't need anymore money for your college career. College football players shouldn't get paid because players receive scholarships for tuition, colleges are lacking in money, and college is not the NFL.…
Two heavy things that I carry physically and emotionally include the green ‘Do your job’ wristband and the weight of my team and how my actions can directly represent the team. I carry both of these things because they help me decide to make good choices when I’m not with my teammates or coaches. The weight of the wristband is a very light object but the weight of the football team is very heavy on me and everyone on the team. These things I carry demand me to make the right choices in my life because I represent all of my coaches and all of my coaches in the same way and by carrying the wristband I am able to constantly reminding myself of how I represent the team. The weight of the team is something that I wish I could sometimes put down because at times, it is intimidating knowing how you're going to represent the team but I made the choice to carry the wristband in order to remind me that I am always acting for all of my coaching staff and teammates.…
American football as we know it originated from rugby played in Britain in the mid-19th century. The person who Americans consider the “Father of American Football” is Walter Camp. Professional football can be traced back to 1982, when there was a $500 contract for the Allegheny Athletic Association and the Pittsburgh Athletic Club to play a game against each other. Originally football was primarily a sport of the Midwestern industrial towns in the United State. In 1902, the American Professional Football Association was formed and two years later the National Football League. The competition was fierce between the two leagues, which led the two leagues to merge. Football eventually became national. When the two leagues merged is when…
