Carlene Carmichael, in “Teach Them Spanish Early, Too”, argues that Americans in California should be taught Spanish at a young age. California’s education system provide programs that teach English as a second language, yet Spanish is not taught to young English-speaking Americans. Unemployed Americans looking for jobs that require people to speak Spanish are at a disadvantage because they do not meet the requirements needed to apply for the specific jobs.…
Sure, learning spanish can make your travel experiences a lot more fun, help you expand your social life, and hey maybe even your love life too but lets be a little more realistic on a normal daily or weekly level thats when spanish speaking jobs come to place. Knowing spanish cannot only expand your job opportunities but it used in many jobs from day cares to law firms and right here in Jacksonville. Before I mentioned law firms and this is a very great example to get my point across, mainly because this is one career many people want to pursue so with that said knowing spanish can help you in this job by having more clients, not having to rely on others to speak the language for you just so that they can get a simple refund from lousy businesses and of coarse the most obvious reason used in every spanish speaking job simply understanding one another.…

With Spanish being the second, or even first, language of most citizens, it is essential for law enforcement to learn this language, or another popular one. It can help avoid confusion from a suspect not responding or prevent an unnecessary death. When an officer can speak more than one language it may help save lives. If a patrol car pulled up to a house where an unanswered 911 call was made, they may be entering a dangerous area. If it was a meth lab that was about to blow up, and the person outside only spoke Spanish, they could unknowingly enter the home and it explode with them in it. That is a situation that could be prevented with taking the time to learn another language.…
I am fluent in French, but that's not going to do me any good. I can read the handwriting on the wall. Mexicans are prouder of their heritage than Americans are which means English will soon become a dead language. So next week I'm going out to San Diego State and see if I can enroll in just one class for starters - Spanish 101. I'm telling you, if you've got kids get them into Spanish classes…
“Some experts (athletes, dancers, musicians visual artists, cabinet makers lab technicians, mechanics, surgeons, etc.) may have acquired knowledge that is difficult to explain in words. Does this mean that other ways of knowing play a more important role than language in knowing how to do something?”…

It is amazing to me to see how much I have accomplished since second grade. I feel as if the little girl who walked throughout the halls of Spanish Immersion, the girl who had little faith in herself to succeed, had changed into a mature, hard working young lady. In second grade I was partly depressed. I had felt as if life had no meaning. I struggled in school, and did not appreciate what was being taught. My mom suggested that I may have had dyslexia, but we were not certain that was the reason. It turns out, she was correct.…
I assume high school would not be as wonderful and joyous as most people think it would be like;I think high school is four years of acne and voices changing (the worst four years of my life). There is two ideas I would dread about high school more classes and two semesters of spanish classes. There is one thing I’m pretecterly looking forward to and that is graduation. Those are just some of the things I am dreading and looking forward to in high school.…
According to 2007 figures from the U.S. Census, more than 3.2 million Texans are limited English proficient, including 818,000 who were born in the United States. An examination of Census data finds that only one-quarter of immigrant Texans who speak Spanish at home speak English "very well," while more than one-half of immigrant Texans who speak a language other than English or Spanish at home are English proficient.…
As I prepared to teach kids who knew no English, all I could think about was how awful my Spanish was and how terribly disappointed I was that I never learned to speak the language fluently. I definitely knew many Spanish words and phrases, but was far from being fluent. Having been raised by an Anglo, English-only speaking mom, and a Mexican dad, fluent in Spanish, who spoke in English to my sister, mom, and me, I was frequently exposed to Spanish being spoken around me (when dad conversed with his…
