shots that can be done with a movie and throughout the movies story line. The lighting throughout the first five minutes may be bright and vivid, but it also shows the darkness moving throughout the city and the danger it brings and what happened to innocent people within the muggle world. As it continues and the two go into where Dumbledore knows an old friend and someone that may be able to help them with the situation of the trouble going on in the muggle world as well as the wizard world, the mood and the lighting that is shown is a dark and mysterious situation. Nothing in this part of the scene lets you know that anything good will come of it. Within this part of the movie, they give off a low-key lighting. The lighting is at very low level which means there are more shadows and darkness given off in the camera and as the viewer sees it: therefore, giving it a more dark and mysterious meaning to what is about to happen and what we can expect to see. This is the most effective way of making the light when the director wants a more mystifying and secretive message behind the story. As they are walking within the dark lighted house, there are stark contrasts of the framed images in the scene. This is also a favorable approach to hiding away the meaningful and significant subjects behind the shadows of the darkened room. The polished and lighter scenes continue to show themselves in this motion picture as well, but surely aren’t as prominent as the darker scenes.
When the scenes are brighter, they are intense and glistening with happiness and pure bliss. Nothing could go wrong in the moments of these scenes. In the small amounts of time these scenes are shown, it appears to be very light and soft and there are few shadows blocking any kind of subjects or important materials that might need to catch the eyes of the viewers. The high-key lighting gives the movie the way of filling the lighting and is a step up from the three-point lighting. The three point lighting shows characters and other elements of the movie three different directions of looking at what the viewer is supposed to be focused on within the time of the movie. This way of lighting is the most commonly used lighting when there is a narrative film. It gives depth and insight to what the observer is supposed to be viewing and gives a comprehensive judgment and understanding of what is happening and what they should be taking away from the situation. This way of lighting also doesn’t give a huge dramatic insight to what is happening around them. Just the shadows of the background and nothing more than that. The watcher is just focused on the people and nothing more than that or anything in the background because there is nothing more happening. The most interesting part of the movie that people never tend to realize is how dark and mysterious this movie is. That is how the film was meant to be, but unless the viewer is aware and focusing on the dark lighting of the movie, it is unnoticeable and only gives a mysterious and gloomy view on the movie in which the events are taking
place. The lighting in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince are the most important piece, because it gives the movie meaning and a sense of wonder. There is a lot that is happening and having the darkness within the film explains everything a viewer needs to know at the time of the scene. The lighter scenes are the most interesting and have the most uncertainty because of how little scenes there are where everything is happy and nothing is going wrong. The mise en scene of lighting is especially important within this movie because of the plot and how many movies leading into this one play a significant and crucial role. The lighting gives a lot of insight of what is going to happen or what the observer thinks is going to happen within the movie and that is why the film is so mysterious, yet comprehensible to viewers who watch it.
