of cherry pie made me hungry. “Ding Dong” it was 6 pm and Stacy had just arrived. We were planning on making pizza’s for dinner. After a delicious meal, Stacy started discussing her ideas for the summer. I added a few of mine in there but nothing was good enough. “Alex! Stacy! Come down stairs please” my mom hollered. We both looked at each other, unsure of what to expect and rushed downstairs. “we have some exciting news for you both, next Monday on the 3rd we will go camping and Stacy your family is going to accompany us. So you both have 2 days to start packing because this is going to be and adventure. Personally, I loved camping but I had never camped for 4 whole days, so it would be a challenge. Stacey got to work right away, she started naming tools and objects that we had to pack for the trip and I wrote them down. Soon it was midnight and we got settled in our sleeping bags to go to sleep.
The weekend went by in a blur. Saturday Stacy helped me pack for the trip and on Sunday, we went to her house. It was pretty fun as we had no load of homework. Monday morning was a rush. My alarm rang at 8 pm which was a reasonable time to be out of bed according to me. As I struggled to get out of bed I noticed that my dad had forgotten to pack all the chargers. Groaning I got up and grabbed all the chargers and battery packs from the shelves and gave them to him. “Thanks now go get dressed” my dad exclaimed. When both families were ready to leave, we set out on our journey. We might have stopped at least 10 times before we reached the campground. Stacey grabbed the tents and started putting them up with her dad while I collected some wood. After about 2 hours it started to get dark so we ate pizza that we bought during the car ride, “way to get into the camp spirit” I said trying to control my laugh.
It was very cold at night so we got a few extra blankets to keep us warm. Stacy and I had some good laughs before her mom came in and hushed us. The next morning I got up and ate some breakfast. While everyone was cleaning up I noticed a passageway behind the bushes and curiously followed it. At the end of the trail, there were patches of grass, few benches, and it was surrounded by water on 3 sides. I went back up and grabbed the camera to take a few pictures. After going through some safety rules, we went out to do outdoor activities. Stacy and I took paddle boating first, it was very fun but by the end of it, my legs were sore. Later we took a break near the lake while our parents went to get some food. For dinner, we grilled up some food and went to sleep in the camper van as it was raining hard. It took a while for me to go to sleep as the branches of the nearby trees were constantly tapping the roof and windows of the
van. When I woke up the next morning it was still raining and we had to stay indoors. When it stopped we jumped around in the puddles but it wasn’t much fun. My parents played board games with me and Stacy was playing Uno. Around afternoon, the sun was out and we needed to clean the mess to make the bonfire. Since the wood I had gathered was wet I had to go on a hunt for more. As night drew in we sat around the fire listening to stories and legends. Soon I fell asleep.
The next day was our last day and we decided to go explore the wilderness. Stacy was just walking with me when she tripped over a mound of dirt. “What is that?” I asked. As I moved some dirt over I saw something stick out of the ground. Using our hands, both I and Stacy dug up the ground and saw what appeared to be a bone. But the crazy thing was it wasn’t small. Since it was stuck in the ground I couldn’t tell how big it was but we had to be careful. I called Stacy’s mom as she was an archeologist. When she examined the bone she told us to go get her shovels and tools. Both families worked together to dig up the large fossil and make sure it didn’t break. The size of the fossil was clearly visible; it was about 3 feet wide and 6 inches tall. We made sure the fossil had a safe place in the camper van and continued with our trip in the forest. At night, we slept outside in the tents again and took lots of pictures as we had to go home tomorrow. In the morning, we set out early so we could go and deliver the fossil to a safe place. When we got home I was exhausted, but I kept on thinking about the fossil. Later in the week, we found out that the fossil was of a bone, which belonged to a Triceratops and not too soon it was put up in the museum. When we went to the museum my name was under the fossil exhibition with Stacy’s. That was because we had discovered it on our trip. We got some money from the fossil which came in useful as Stacey decided that we could use it to build a tree house and I agreed. That was the best discovery of my life and I really enjoyed every part of that short camping trip.
