, “An estimated 82.1% of ancestors to African-Americans lived in Africa prior to the advent of transatlantic travel, 16.7% in Europe, and 1.2% in the Americas, with increased African ancestry in the southern United States compared to the North and West. Combining demographic models of ancestry and those of relatedness suggests that admixture occurred predominantly in the South prior to the Civil War and that ancestry-biased migration is responsible for regional differences in ancestry”…

Sanders explains, although we may come from one certain place they are all looked at equally. As the author starts to grow older he begins to notice the differences in land from region to region. Sanders says that “With every journey I took, the world seemed larger and more various” (155). In different places the land may have looked the same but a lot of other things were different such as accents and the attires of people. Sanders explains, although America is still a textured land it is being smoothed over by technology and our feverish mobility. He states that the more we chase after making a name for ourselves it is less likely that we know everything about the land we are on in that moment. We have come to realize that although we are in a different place, we still familiarize it with the same things at home. In order to solve this problem Sanders suggests “Instead of patching up old regional costumes, therefore, we ought to clothe ourselves with a new sense of place” (157-58). He also states that is has been said in order to do this we must let go of our “local attachments, forego geography and move into the global village constructed by the media and the multinational corporations” (158).…

We as people want to fit in wherever we are located. We as a diverse culture have different views of what it is to be an American. Some cultures like having their nationality hyphened, because it keeps them from forgetting where they came from and where they are now. I will discuss how some Americans feel about being an American and having it attached with a hyphen, and how it makes them feel that we are not united. There are others who have never known anything but being an American and they are still hyphenated because of the color of their skin. I will explain how the U.S. Census Bureau has a role in hyphenating Americans, what it was used for, and how it has a hand in keeping this issue, separating people by…

Everyone has ancestors. Everyone is a descendant. Americans are fortunate that their ancestors made a decision to migrate to the United States at some point in time. The ancestors began a new life with the hopes in bettering the lives of their descendants. Today, people come to America with the same mindset of creating a better life for their offspring. Birthright citizenship should not be abolished because it is a part of the Constitution, immigrants should be able to create a better life for their offspring and a population increase of native-born noncitizens should be prevented.…

America was founded by immigrants. Still today many people from other countries want to come to America in order to escape from their horrid lives. Our nation is in a constant worry about immigration. More and more individuals are coming into this county whether they are legal or illegal aliens. I believe that our ancestors would argue that people should be able to flee their homes and come to a better county. I also believe that our ancestors would argue that the United States as a whole is composed of descendants of immigrants.…
