In the article “The Importance of Play”, the author states that promoting play increases the chance of a healthier lifestyle for a childs future. The article talks about how middle class parents have a hurried lifestyle, which results with the parents not taking opportunities to interact with their babies. This then leads to their children later on having anxiety problems as well as higher stress levels. On the other hand, parents who live in poverty, have a harder time giving the opportunities to have social interactions because of their neighborhood or high volume of violence in the area. It went in depth of the benefits from interacting with the children. One thing that caught my eye was how critical it is to play with children and give them personal opportunities to play as well. This teaches them social and emotional skills that will later on benefit for their adolescent and adult years. Something as simple as singing songs, playing with toys, or reading books with or without their parents gives them cognitive skills that they can later utilize for their future. Something as simple as playing can teach them to use their imagination. Children who did not get the fundamentals of child like play including using imagination will effect their development later on in the future. Lastly, children who live in poverty won’t get as many chances to grow in the extra curricular activities because of the environment they live in. In todays society, the internet, electronics, and social media has become a part of todays everyday life. Therefore, in the aspect that children now rely on games and social media as their daily routines is a huge dilemma. This decreases chances of children interacting as well as children neglecting healthier lifestyles because they’d rather consume their time with television rather then interacting with friends outside of their house. The Importance of Play states that children who have highly scheduled lifestyles will be inadequate in character traits needed in everyday life. It explains that to be successful with all of the essential traits including honesty, generosity, decency, tenacity, and compassion, one must gain the essentials by navigating through their parents. I partially agree but partially disagree as well. In my opinion, there are some cases that some parents don’t have all the essential traits themselves. Children learning from parents that cant offer this may or may not always be a benefit for the child. Some parents are fixated on substances that may not be healthy for the child. If the parent is lacking traits, the children wont always be able to learn from inside their household and outsiders such as teachers, counselors, friends, etc. may have more to
