There have been many books, articles and researches done on the Paleo diet. There are some agreements and disagreements about this diet, even by experts. However, most scientists and nutritionists are in agreement on the foundations of this diet. The basic concepts are easy to understand and they are

Eat Like A Cave Man

If the people of the Paleolithic Era had a particular food in the diet, it is acceptable and included in the Paleo diet. If not that particular food is not permitted in the diet. This is the very basis of the Paleo diet. If the caveman has eaten then its included.

Sources Are Important

To do the Paleo diet justice, one has to be fully aware of where the food is got from. Grass fed meat, eggs got from grain fed chickens are preferred to the meat and the eggs that come from domesticated animals and chickens. The wild caught salmon is preferred than the farm raised salmons.

Salt is also not necessary for fresh foods. Meats have plenty of natural salt in them already and do not need added salt. The extra salt in the modern diet leads to high blood pressure and an imbalance of electrolytes. The basis of this Paleo diet is to throw away the salt shakers.

Cooking is allowed

There are similar diets that emphasize on eating raw fruits, vegetables and meat. The Paleo diet recognizes that the cavemen did cook their food, and so cooking is perfectly acceptable. Although raw foods are encouraged, especially in the cases of fruits and vegetables. This brings more people to the table who would not want to eat raw meat or fish.

The only beverage that is truly Paleo is water and should be taken only when thirsty. The best is spring water that is free of pharmaceuticals with no chlorine or fluoride added.
