It is important to keep honoring our veterans because they have sacrificed so much for this country. Also we honor them because we need to tell them how appreciative we are of their dutiful service to our country. Even the president honors our veterans. Each year the president or one of his representatives lays a wreath on The Tomb of The Unknown Soldiers in the Arlington Cemetery every Veterans Day to honor those veterans. Even though the first unknown soldier was laid to rest there on Armistice day on the year of 1921 this ceremony still continues. This is one way that shows just how important honoring our veterans…

This heartwarming story is about a young boy and his father who take a trip to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. The father is looking for his father’s name on the giant memorial. While searching for his grandfather’s name, he young boy can’t help but notice everyone else around them. he sees wounded soldiers, people crying and hugging each other, a teacher and her class, and flowers that are now drooping. His own father also seems sad after visiting the monument, and he too feels a little sad because he doesn’t have a grandfather. His father expresses that he’s thankful that his father’s name is on that wall, because it just proves he was a hero to…
In 1918, President Wilson established November 11 as a day to show honor and thankfulness for those who have risked their lives for our country. This day was significant because it was "The War to end all Wars,” World War I. This day was mainly set aside to show pride to our veterans of World War I. In 1938, Armistice Day, Veterans Day original name, became a legal holiday. In 1945 just after World War II ended, congress changed Armistice Day to Veterans Day. Since then, Veterans Day was created to show pride to American Veterans of every war, with the oddity of a few years in which it was celebrated every year on a Monday, November 11th.…
It is very important to keep honoring our veterans because if they didn’t fight for our country we would still be ruled by England or any other country that tried to fight us. Veterans play a big role in shaping our country and it is our job to recognize that. It takes a lot of tears and heartbreak to end a war, like WWI that ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, and those who survived and died are worthy of the recognition. If you have never talked to a veteran about their experiences in war, try it sometime and you might see how valuable they were in the making of the U.S. I think that it was smart that Dwight D. Eisenhower changed it from Armistice Day to Veterans Day because like I said it is very important to keep…
Veterans day was originally called Armistice Day. It was established in November 11, 1918 when the Germans signed a peace treaty to end the First World War. President Woodrow Wilson announced Armistice Day in 1919. Congress in 1926 preserved this holiday to be celebrated on November 11th to celebrate the US flags. An act was approved in 1938 to celebrate world peace on November 11th every year. Then in 1953 a Kansas shoe store owner suggested to replace Armistice Day with All Veterans Day. Dwight Eisenhower made this bill into a law so that Armistice day would officially become Veterans Day. But then from 1971 to 1978 it was to be celebrated on every fourth Monday in October. Then it was reverted to be celebrate on the original date on November…
become a person of value”. ~Albert Einstein.Veterans are not just men and women who went to war. Veterans are the cause, we live in a safe country they are the cause, we walk on the sidewalk laughing and enjoying what life brings us. But the question in my mind is we laugh, play, and learn, what about Veterans they don’t laugh, they cry they don’t play they fight they don’t learn they die. We are not grateful we don’t respect the lives we live in every day. But that's not the point, we don’t even remember the reason we laugh, play and learn, if I were to tell you the number of people who died for us to have a bright future those numbers won’t matter the thoughts will. When I think about Veterans day I think about people who came back from the war and live a happy life, but I was wrong after learning the truth. Veterans day was the day we respect what we lose but even more we respect what we gained. That is what Veterans day means to me.…
In the early 1600's, before the birth of the administration, a system was created to supported the veterans. In 1917, Congress created a system for the veteran to have benefits that targeted disability compensation. The services included programs for disability compensation, insurance for service personnel and Veterans, and vocational rehabilitation for the disabled veteran. The Veterans Administration was created in 1930 when President Herbert Hoover signed the Executive Order. The administration consolidated all government activities dealing with war veterans. Over the years, the Department of Veterans Affairs has changed drastically and have encompassed many different facets. With the increase in foreign wars and conflicts, the influx of veterans in need of medical care and disability compensation…
Veterans day started on November 11, 1918, and is classified as “the war to end all wars”. “Veterans day is the day set aside to thank and honor all those who served honorably in the military.” (Department of veterans affairs, 2) Veterans day is very important because we are honoring our veterans and all that they have sacrificed for us. Countries from all around the world celebrate this day. “Canada and Australia observe Remembrance day on November 11th.” (department of veterans affairs, 3) People from all over the world celebrate veterans day. We should always thank them and what they have given us.…
Memorial day is a very special day it is when we remember those who have died fighting for us. Memorial day is a special day for me because I am grateful to still have my grandpa here today. Another name for memorial day is Decoration Day. The reasoning for this name is they would decorate the graves of those you died fighting for us.…
American citizens that have come back from the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard are known as Veterans. Throughout the years, thousands of troops have come back being known as heroes and were rewarded a day in which they have served our country. This day has a name that goes by Veterans Day and is placed on the 11th of November.…
With Veteran’s Day coming around the corner I decided to write about why veterans should be respected in our country. Some people believe that we shouldn’t have as big as an army or just that they don’t like veterans because they were in a war. This should be different. Those soldiers didn’t choose the war they were going to fight in they go out and fight for our country with everything that they have. These soldiers should be respected because of their courage, loyalty, respect.…
