The Importance Of Writing In Math By Marilyn Burns

Marilyn Burns is one of the most highly respected mathematics educators today. Her article Writing in Math describes the various ways that teachers can integrate writing into their math curriculum. In the article she described four different categories she used to allow her students to write in her math class. The two that stuck out to me the most were keeping journals and explaining mathematical ideas. Writing in math class is important for many reasons. It is a great way to integrate subjects in the classroom. I believe that keeping journals in math class is an important aspect of mathematics. Keeping a journal will allow students to look back at all of the topics and material they have learned over the course of the year. They may have started
