I would start off by saying I understand your frustrations and sympathize with them, and say (that is why I am here), to help rectify the problems and get this office running proficiently. So they don’t lose their work again. And then I would start to ask them what they would like to see changed and ask them their insight on it. And hope that I get a response from them.
2. How can Yumiko research her options before making UPS and computer purchases?
She should start off by asking what kind of budget they have so she can get an idea of how much they are willing to spend. Then after that, start looking at the work load they have in the office, also look at how big the office is that they work out of. See how man y case’s they are working on or ask them so she can base what they are going to need for computers. Than after all that, start looking at what kind of UPS she will need to have running so in case of a brownout or power loss they won’t lose their work. After she has completed all that, I would recommend going to the boss and show him her conclusion on what is needed.
3. Which features are available in those devices that might be useful for the purposes of management of her law firm, and why? Which features are lacking that might merit further consideration and why?
Well the advantage of the UPS is that it helps to keep the machines from getting hit with a power surge in case the main power fails. It also helps to keep the machines running so that if the power fails the computer won’t shut down and they lose all their work. It can also serve as a power management for the office and monitor the usage. The disadvantages to this system I believe is the battery pack. And the amount of time they can stay running while the power is down. The battery/s in them has to be replaced periodically so that they can maintain their full potential.
4. In what price range can Yumiko expect to find the devices that she needs?
The price can range as low as $35.00 to over $ 400.00 for a UPS that can accommodate a small building with a fair amount of computers with monitors and copiers and fax machines running. They do however have bigger ones, like I believe in Alaska that can power a whole city grid. But I know that wouldn’t be needed in this case.

1) The type of network I would use in this particular situation. I would first start off with recommending a high speed broadband provider such as in my area Either EPB or Comcast for connectivity. I would also start with a wireless router to allow wireless connectivity at the office itself. Depending on the type of business and what they would do production wise I would also recommend a VPN to allow offsite business with access to the files based off of needs of the individual employee. For this business a simple LAN would suffice their needs with simple usage. I would build the Client/Server network for this company. I would also recommend Windows 7 for the office computers. This would allow each user to have their own set of permissions with higher level employees having for instance editing access to certain documents pertinent to their job.…

Most of the salespeople for Old Reliable Life Insurance are visiting customers in their homes or offices. Today, the salespeople carry a laptop computer to show value projections and cash flow summaries for various policies. Many of them also carry a PDA for appointments and a mobile phone. Julie would like to ensure that salespeople have access to the home office server computers while they are making their sales presentations to customers. In order to do this I have prepared three of the best options, to be reviewed, that I believe would benefit the customer as well as the salesperson.…

My recommendations for Sarah’s Flower Designs would include a workstation, a personal digital assistant, and a solid state storage device or compact disk (CD) recordable drive. I would consider updating their current computer system into a small workstation. According to Axia College Week One reading Computer Hardware Technologies (2008), “Computer companies design workstations for a specific purpose, such as developing architectural blueprints or processing DNA” (p. 54). This workstation will be specifically designed to handle all the financial duties, client information, and order histories. In order to do this, I recommend upgrading the hard drive and the central processing unit (CPU). This would allow the new computer to accommodate all the information that they need to store and have enough processor speed to run all of the needed programs. I would also suggest using a solid state storage device or CD recordable (CD-R) drive to help store records and provide a way to backup important business files. In order to help Kim keep track the addresses and delivery instructions, I would recommend using a hand held computer or a personal digital assistant. This would be an excellent way to keep track of the many addresses and delivery instructions that they may encounter.…

UPS has used the same strategy for over 90 years. Its strategy is to provide the “best service and lowest rates.” One of the most visible aspects of technology is the customer’s ability to track his/her package via the UPS Web site. However, technology also enables data to seamlessly flow throughout UPS and helps streamline the workflow at UPS. Thus, the technology described in the scenario enables UPS to be more competitive, efficient, and profitable. The result is an information system solution to the…
