The Influence Of Betsy Ross On The American Flag
Betsy Ross is considered the original creator of the American Flag while it was still a developing nation. She lived for a total of 84years which is from 1752-1836. Unfortunately, many people think of Betsy as an average woman in the 18th century. This is because there is no proof of the fact that she created the flag. It is not established as a historical fact, since there is no historical evidence, and therefore, many people consider this statement to be a myth. Betsy purposely chose the colors on the American flag because they resembled certain aspects of our country. Red showed valor, white displayed innocence, and blue resembled vigilance. Some people believe that Betsy Ross convinced George Washington that the American flag’s stars should have five points instead of six, which George Washington finally accepted. After the Revolutionary War was over Betsy Ross never stopped loving her country. She sewed large American flags that were hung in New Orleans. She also sewed twenty-seven flags for the Indian department with her grandchildren. The Lost Cause influenced the honor and commencement offered to the Confederate heroes, and deemphasized the importance of slavery in their fight; without regard to the limitations due to the poor economic situation they were left in when the war ended. The purpose of Lost Cause of the Confederacy was to spread the idea that the American Civil War was not centralized around slavery, but was a struggle to preserve the Southern way of life, and their rights as states. While on the surface the actions taken by the Lost Cause advocates seemed not to focus on politics, it was perhaps underneath it all a political matter.…

Within the United States of America, arguments, involving the Confederate Flag, are solved every sngle day. However, some controversies have managed to carry on from the 1800’s until present day without any solution. The text and symbolic meaning behind the “Confederate Flag” is a perfect example. The Confederate Flag is one of America’s most embattled symbolic controversies. Created in 1861in a battle between the South, Confederates, and the North, Union, two men by the name P.G.T. Beauregard and Congressman William P. Miles designed and created a flag that would represent the true southern pride and demands that would not only bring about conflict with one half of the nation but also with our American society today. The South wanted to fulfill their demands of a new government with a victory, but the North opposed that thought. Today, people in our society misunderstand and misinterpret the true meaning behind the Confederate Flag and what it represents. The Confederate monuments are a vital part of history and eliminating them is like eliminating history. The past is the past and the monuments do not stand for racism it stands for a part of history and it definitely wasn't a good part of history but it was a learning experience for it to not happen again. The statues and flag stands for history of the south and every time someone see a flag or monument it reminds them of what the ancestors of the south did and fought for in the civil war. If that is taken away eventually the whole memory all together will be forgotten. They stand for the south and the way of life , the struggle they went through in order to obtain states rights, and the past events and without them the nation wouldn’t be where it is now.…

In the past couple of year, there has been a controversial battle over the flying of the Confederate Flag on government buildings. The controversy has really started to stir up in the southern states such as South Carolina, Mississippi, and Georgia. On January 30, 2001, the state of Georgia changed its flag, removing the large Confederate battle cross from the 1956 design and replacing it with the state seal of Georgia. Now, the state of Mississippi is the only state that fearlessly displays the Southern Cross in its state flag. Though several Southerners see the Confederate Flag as a symbol of southern pride and heritage, many others see the flag as a dishonorable reminder of slavery and segregation in the south. Although this flag is under great controversy in the southern states, there is no reason why this flag should fly from government buildings because it is demoralizes African Americans in the symbolization of slavery, segregation and domination and because it is used by many hate groups across the United States and the world.…
